Shares of Rivian Automotive (RIVN) are on track to close in the red for the fourth straight week as the company prepares to start delivering its new R2 midsize SUV.

The stock is on track to close 1% lower this week, if losses hold.

Upcoming R2 Deliveries

On Friday, Rivian said that its official online configurator for the R2 compact electric SUV is now live, giving prospective buyers the ability to customize and “start building” their vehicles ahead of deliveries.

“The R2 configurator is live. Explore paint colors, interiors, wheels and more. Head to our website and start building,” the company posted on X alongside a promotional video.

The R2, priced from approximately $45,000 for the cheapest variant, is Rivian’s first mass-market model and is designed to compete directly with vehicles like the Tesla Model Y. The configurator launch marks the next step in the company’s effort to convert the more than 100,000 reservations it received shortly after the R2’s unveiling last year.

R2’s online configurator now shows three variants, namely standard, premium, and performance, priced between $48,490 and $57,990.

Deliveries will commence with the Performance variant in Spring this year, followed by the Premium variant slated for later this year, and the Standard variant, which is slated to be launched next year.

Rivian confirmed in April that it had already started production of the R2 at its facility in Normal, Illinois. For the whole of 2026, Rivian now expects to deliver 62,000-67,000 vehicles, up from the 42,247 vehicles delivered in 2025. However, the ramp of R2 delivery will be “back-half weighted,” according to Rivian CFO Claire McDonough.

How Did RIVN Retail Traders React?

On Stocktwits, the retail sentiment around RIVN stayed in ‘bullish’ territory over the past 24 hours, while message volume stayed at ‘normal’ levels.

A Stocktwits user opined that 2026 will be Rivian's “banner breakout year.”

Another user opined that the sales of the R2 launch model will be “as abysmal” as the company’s first vehicle, called the R1.

RIVN stock has fallen 8% over the past 12 months.
