$NET Cloudflare announced Friday it is acquiring Deno, the JavaScript runtime co-founded by Node.js creator Ryan Dahl. The deal includes celld, Deno's open-source implementation of Workers and Durable Objects designed to run on your own servers, with each Durable Object getting its own SQLite database replicated to an S3 bucket you control. That closes the main gap in self-hosted Workers, where Durable Objects currently run only as a single instance off Cloudflare's network. Kenton Varda, Cloudflare's principal engineer for Workers, wrote that giving customers an escape hatch from the platform is good business. Shares were up about 5.6 percent Friday to close near 361, about 2.5 percent under the 52-week high.
