Mumbai, April 6 : The trailer of the Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Bhooth Bangla’ was unveiled on Monday. The film marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav. And by the looks of it, the makers seem to be playing safe in order to serve market forces and the audience. While the trailer does reveal an engaging storyline balancing the humour with horror, it tries too hard to appeal to the masses. For starters, the haveli shown in the trailer appears to be the same as the one used in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’. However, the most prominent inclusion is the song ‘Ram Ji Bhala Karein’, featuring the hook line of the song ‘Bhuter Raja Dilo Bor’ from the National Award-winning Bengali film ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’, helmed by Satyajit Ray. India has ordered blocking public access to 25 streaming platforms, including Balaji Telefilms -owned ‘ALTT’ for alleged obscene, vulgar and in some cases, pornographic content, a government official said on Friday. Besides ‘ALTT’, other streaming platforms that were also banned were smaller, including players such as Ullu and Hulchul, according to the government official. India has previously told streaming platforms, including Netflix, Disney and others, that their content should be independently reviewed for obscenity and violence before being shown online. Top Bollywood movie stars have featured in online movies and television series, some of which have faced criticism from lawmakers and the public for scenes deemed vulgar or offensive to religious sentiments. ‘ALTT’ had more than 1 million subscriptions in financial year ended March, and generated about 202.6 million Indian rupees in revenue during the year, Balaji Telefilms said earlier this month. ‘ALTT’ owner Balaji Telefilms said in an exchange filing that the government order would have no significant impact on the company.

Balaji Telefilms' streaming platform, ALTT, valued at ₹1,209 crore, faces a government ban along with 24 other OTT platforms due to alleged violations of Indian laws concerning obscenity and indecent representation of women. This action follows the IT Rules, 2021, impacting ALTT's future after strategic shifts to a hybrid SVOD/AVOD model and significant investment by Balaji Telefilms.
