$BEAM 🚨 Meaningful BEAM development today, September 30: Beam Therapeutics⁠ has filed a lawsuit alleging that former Beam scientist Zi Jun “Emma” Wang misappropriated confidential base-editing technology and used it to help create YolTech Therapeutics. The dispute is particularly relevant because YolTech's YOLT-202/SERP-01 targets AATD—the same disease as BEAM-302—and uses base editing. Beam alleges Wang secretly co-founded YolTech while still employed at Beam and that the competing AATD program was developed using Beam trade secrets. The commercial stakes are potentially substantial: YolTech recently licensed SERP-01 outside Greater China to Serapha Bio in a deal containing more than 2 billion dollars in potential milestones, and Serapha is also named in Beam's lawsuit. Serapha denies the allegations.
