Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Chatter was consistently at ‘extremely high’ levels for Monero, while Dash saw message volume move to ‘extremely high’ from ‘high’ levels.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Zcash Lags Privacy Coin Rally But Leads Annual Gains</h2>Zcash (ZEC), the second-largest privacy coin after Monero, did not see as big a rally as its counterparts. ZEC’s price gained 2.8% in the last 24 hours to trade at around $417 – nearly 86% before its record high of nearly $3,200 seen nine years ago. The privacy coin rally unfolded alongside a broader advance in the crypto market, with total market capitalization moving back above $3.3 trillion.

This brings its total Zcash holdings to 290,062.67 ZEC, representing an estimated 1.76% of the total circulating network supply, it stated.Cypherpunk, previously known as Leap Therapeutics, is backed by Winklevoss Capital, an investment firm owned by the Winklevoss brothers who founded crypto firm Gemini. The capital firm invested $58.9 million into Cypherpunk, aiming to acquire Zcash. It aims to have at least 5% of Zcash’s total supply."We continue to execute on our goal of accumulating 5% of the Zcash network," said Will McEvoy, CIO of Cypherpunk.It had purchased $18 million of ZEC in November. The company sees Zcash as digital privacy in asset form, the same way Bitcoin has proven to be digital gold.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Growing Interest In Privacy-Focused Cryptocurrency</h2>Institutional interest in privacy-centric cryptocurrencies like Zcash is increasing as regulatory clarity is pushing privacy back into focus, particularly as public blockchains move closer to integration with the traditional financial system, according to a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://research.grayscale.com/market-commentary/crypto-sectors-quarterly-a-preference-for-privacy">report</a> from Grayscale.That backdrop helped drive outperformance among privacy-oriented tokens, with <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/zcash-emerges-as-q4-outperformer-while-bitcoin-ethereum-lost-ground/cL74Y8RREUc">Zcash</a> standing out in Q4, according to Grayscale.
