Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. However, no final decision has been made and the situation would change, the report said.As per one of Bloomberg’s sources, Stellantis could sell its stake to a third party. Some sources also said that the exit from the 2021 JV could be costly for the automaker, as per the report.The report comes on the heels of Stellantis exiting a joint venture with LG Energy Solution in Windsor last week. The company sold its 49% stake in the JV to LG for just $100. &nbsp;STLA shares rose 3% at the time of writing. Most of the write-downs reflected a reassessment of the pace of customer adoption of electric vehicles."The charges announced today largely reflect the cost of over-estimating the pace of the energy transition that distanced us from many car buyers’ real-world needs, means and desires. They also reflect the impact of previous poor operational execution, the effects of which are being progressively addressed by our new Team,” CEO Antonio Filosa then said in a statement.The largest portion, €14.7 billion, relates to changes in product plans and U.S. emissions compliance, including write-offs of canceled vehicles and impairments of EV platforms. Stellantis’ New CEO Takes Charge, Announces Leadership Changes: Stock Edges Lower As Insider Pick Draws Analyst Skepticism

Stellantis is the result of the 2021 merger of Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) and the French automotive company PSA.Following the merger in 2021, Filosa was appointed the South America COO. He was most recently appointed COO for both North and South America after previously serving as CEO of the Stellantis brand Jeep.Filosa will be granted CEO powers effective June 23. He will then announce the company’s new leadership team.The company also said that it will hold an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting in the coming days to elect Filosa to the Board as an executive director.Stellantis has been on the lookout for a new CEO since December after its previous chief executive, Carlos Tavares, stepped down. Last month, the company assured that the hunt for a permanent CEO would be concluded within the first half of 2025.Chairman Elkann is currently leading the company. Once Filosa takes over as the CEO, Elkann will continue in his role as Executive Chairman of the carmaker, Stellantis said.Filosa’s appointment comes as the company is going through a period of uncertainty. The Jeep-parent suspended its full-year financial guidance in April, citing tariff-related concerns.For the first quarter (Q1), Stellantis reported net revenues of €35.8 billion ($40.66 billion), down 14% compared to Q1 2024, and below Wall Street expectations. Carmaker Stellantis NV (STLA) said on Wednesday that it will invest $388 million to develop a megahub in Van Buren Township, Michigan, for its Mopar service parts distribution network.The new facility is set to launch in 2027 and will include AutoStore automated storage and retrieval systems, the company <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://media.stellantisnorthamerica.com/newsrelease.do?id=26792&amp;mid=1">said</a>.The AutoStore system uses compact robots that navigate tracks above a high-density grid of storage bins to retrieve parts and deliver them to workstations, where employees pack and process final shipments.Darren Bradshaw, senior vice president and head of Mopar North America, said that the company is building a more reliable parts distribution network with the new facility. Carmaker Stellantis NV (STLA) <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.media.stellantis.com/em-en/citroen/press/xavier-chardon-is-appointed-chief-executive-officer-of-citroen">said</a> on Monday that it has appointed Xavier Chardon as the new CEO of its Citroën brand, replacing Thierry Koskas.The company said Chardon’s appointment will be effective June 2. He will report to Stellantis’ Chief Operating Officer for Enlarged Europe, Jean-Philippe Imparato.The new CEO was part of the brand before he left to join German automaker Volkswagen, where he was most recently the Chairman of the Management Board of Volkswagen Group France.He joined French automaker and then-Citroën parent PSA in 1994 and worked with the company until 2011. Chardon was Managing Director of Citroën France when he left the company.A company spokesperson <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/boards-policy-regulation/citroen-appoints-xavier-chardon-ceo-2025-05-19/">told</a> Reuters that Koskas will leave Stellantis instead of moving into a different role in the company. &nbsp;Stellantis was created after the 2021 merger of Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) and PSA. The company owns 14 brands, including Jeep, Citroen, Fiat, and Peugeot.Stellantis is looking for a new CEO after its previous chief executive, Carlos Tavares, stepped down in December.
