Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. GSK Expects Full-Year Earnings At Top End Of Guidance: CEO Says ‘Confident In Our Long-Term Outlooks’

U.S. Food and Drug Administration reviewers on Tuesday flagged certain concerns about GSK Plc’s (GSK) investigational cancer drug called Blenrep, including a high rate of ocular toxicities.Ocular toxicity refers to the harmful effects a substance or drug has on the eye, potentially causing damage to its structure or impairing its function.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GSK">GSK</a> is seeking approval for the drug, also known as Belantamab Mafodotin, in the treatment of adults with multiple myeloma in combination with Bortezomib or Pomalidomide and Dexamethasone in patients who have received at least one prior line of therapy. The application is based on data from two late-stage trials.FDA reviewers <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.fda.gov/media/187578/download">stated</a> in briefing documents on the regulator’s website that the benefit-risk profile of the drug for treating multiple myeloma “remains unclear,” considering efficacy results, safety and tolerability concerns, and uncertainties regarding the appropriateness of the proposed dosages.The documents were released ahead of an advisory committee meeting scheduled for Thursday. The FDA is expected to decide on approving or disapproving the drug by next week.The reviewers noted a high incidence of ocular toxicity with the treatment, including keratopathy (changes in the corneal epithelium), changes in clarity of vision, as well as other ocular symptoms, such as blurred vision and dry eyes.“The ocular toxicity, including corneal toxicity, observed with Belantamab Mafodotin is a unique toxicity that is not seen with any currently available treatments for multiple myeloma,” they said.While ocular toxicity may be asymptomatic in its early stages, it can result in severe consequences, such as loss of vision, the reviewers noted.The agency also expressed concern that the dosages of Belantamab Mafodotin have not been adequately optimized, as evidenced by the high rates of dose modifications in both trials referred to in the application.A majority of patients were not receiving the intended dosage and required frequent dose modifications, including interruptions, throughout the duration of treatment, the agency said.Blenrep was previously granted accelerated approval as monotherapy on Aug. 5, 2020, for the treatment of patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who have received at least four prior therapies. US FDA Reviewers Highlight Safety Concerns With GSK’s Investigational Cancer Drug: Retail’s On The Fence

GSK plc (GSK) said on Monday that its application for extending the use of its respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine Arexvy to adults aged 18-49 who are at increased risk of contracting the disease has been accepted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).The vaccine is currently approved in the U.S. for the prevention of lower respiratory tract disease (LRTD) caused by RSV in adults aged 60 and older, and for those aged 50-59 years who are at increased risk. Adults can be at increased risk for RSV disease due to certain comorbidities, immune-compromised status, or advanced age.A regulatory decision by the FDA on this submission is <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.gsk.com/en-gb/media/press-releases/us-fda-accepts-application-to-review-expanded-use-of-gsk-s-rsv-vaccine/">expected</a> in the first half of 2026.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GSK">GSK</a> is continuing to seek expanded indications for its RSV vaccine in other geographies, including in the European Economic Area and Japan, the company said.RSV is a common contagious virus affecting the lungs and breathing passages and impacts an estimated 64 million people of all ages globally every year, as per GSK.
