Gold, Silver Prices Climb To Fresh Record Highs Amid Renewed Trade Tensions Between US, China

Spot gold prices climbed to a new high of $4,084 per troy ounce, while spot silver prices soared to $51.74 on Monday.

Gold prices hit another record high on Monday as renewed trade tensions between the U.S. and China brought in safe-haven flows into bullion.Spot gold prices rose 1.4% to $4,073.26 per ounce at 3.44 a.m. ET. It had jumped as high as $4,078.18 per ounce earlier in the session. The bullion has already posted eight consecutive weeks of gains. Gold Hits Fresh All-Time Highs As US-China Trade Tensions Spike

Spot gold prices rose 1.4% to $4,073.26 per ounce at 3.44 a.m. ET. It had jumped as high as $4,078.18 per ounce earlier in the session.

Newmont (NEM) stock gained more than 3% in premarket trading on Monday after Goldman Sachs turned bullish on the gold miner.According to The Fly, the brokerage upgraded Newmont to ‘Buy’ from ‘Neutral’ and raised the price target to $104.30 from $77.30. The updated price target implies a 22.5% upside compared to the stock’s closing price on Friday.Newmont shares have fallen 3.2% over the past week, compared with gold’s 2.7% gains. Goldman Sachs reportedly cited the stock’s valuation for the upgrade following recent underperformance. It also noted that the company trades at a discount compared to its peers. Newmont’s trailing price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, a key gauge of valuation, stood at 15.4, compared with rival Barrick’s 20.6, according to Koyfin data.Newmont and other gold miner stocks have rallied this year, banking on an over 54% jump in spot gold prices, aided by geopolitical uncertainty, and aggressive buying by central banks and retail investors. However, prominent analysts still believe that mining stocks have more room to run.Last week, gold bull Peter Schiff said that despite the recent gains in gold and silver prices, mining stocks are yet to hit new highs as stock investors expect the precious metals to retreat. “When the correction they expect doesn’t happen, they will rush to buy back,” he said.Newmont stock has more than doubled this year, making it the most valued mining company on the S&amp;P 500 index. &nbsp;In late September, Newmont said CEO Tom Palmer will retire at the end of the year, handing over the reins of the company to Chief Operating Officer Natascha Viljoen. Yet the bullion remains on course for the eighth straight week of gains, banking on political uncertainties as the U.S. government shutdown entered its second week.According to ING Commodities data, investors have been adding gold ETFs at a rapid pace. Total gold held by ETFs rose 17% this year, the highest level since September 2022. Investor holdings in gold ETFs generally rise when gold prices rise, and vice versa.The research firm noted that there is still room for further additions, as the current total remains shy of the 2020 peak, and additional inflows could push gold even higher.According to a Reuters News report, Alex Ebkarian, COO at Allegiance Gold, said that gold is in a secular bull market for the next five years. Gold's record-breaking surge past $4,000, driven by ETF inflows, Fed cut hopes and central bank demand, cements its place as 2025's standout asset.

Gold prices continued to surge to new highs on Wednesday ahead of the release of the Federal Reserve’s latest minutes, while the U.S. government shutdown entered its eighth day.Spot gold prices climbed to a new high of $4,049 per troy ounce, surging by 1.6% before paring some of the gains. Gold futures maturing in December gained 1.7% to rise to $4,071, before paring some of the gains.According to a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/gold-edges-higher-supported-by-possible-hedging-demand-c6e4a223">report</a> by The Wall Street Journal, Bart Melek, head of commodity strategy at TD Securities, expects gold prices to cross $4,400 in the first half of 2026 as the Fed eases its monetary policy. However, the analyst adds that any doubts about the Fed cutting the policy rate could result in a sharp near-term pullback in gold prices.Analysts at ING Think underscore the delay in the release of key economic data due to the U.S. government shutdown as a contributing factor in driving up the demand for gold. “Markets are pricing in a quarter-point cut this month, which would further benefit gold, as it doesn’t pay interest. Policy uncertainty and growing bets on Federal Reserve easing are keeping safe-haven demand strong,” the firm&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://think.ing.com/articles/gold-futures-hit-historic-4000/">said</a> in its latest note.Gold prices have surged 54% year-to-date, crossing the $3,000 level for the first time in March. Since then, prices of the yellow metal have soared by nearly 35%.Despite the run-up in gold prices this year, Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/gold-prices-futures-cross-4000-ray-dalio-says-its-like-1970s/ch6PWKCR3hO">recommended</a> that investors increase the allocation for gold in their portfolios. “It’s very much like the early ’70s...where do you put your money in?” Dalio asked, adding that debt instruments are not an “effective storehold of wealth” due to the current supplies.“Gold is a very excellent diversifier in the portfolio. If you look at it just from a strategic asset allocation perspective, you would probably have something like 15% of your portfolio in gold … because it is one asset that does very well when the typical parts of the portfolio go down,” Dalio said Tuesday at the Greenwich Economic Forum in Greenwich, Connecticut.Spot silver prices have also surged to a new all-time high, rising to $49.03 per ounce, surpassing the 2011 high of $47.95 after a 2.5% surge on Wednesday.
