Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Solana (SOL) outperformed Bitcoin (BTC) and other major altcoins in early morning trade on Friday after Galaxy Digital purchased more than two million tokens over the past 24 hours, following CEO Mike Novogratz’s declaration that it was ‘Solana Season.’Dogecoin (DOGE) also moved higher on speculation, despite the reported delay of the Rex Osprey Dogecoin ETF (DOJE), which was slated to launch later on Friday but has been pushed to next week, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. “Another delay. ‘Bitcoin in Consolidation’ – Galaxy’s Mike Novogratz Reportedly Sees Solana, Ethereum Taking Spotlight For Now

Novogratz stated that Bitcoin’s price is likely to see a renewed rally towards the end of the year.

We better win on-chain credit,” he said.Novogratz cited the recent regulatory developments as a turning point. “Banks can’t not bank us just because we’re crypto,” he said, calling this a “green light” moment for institutional participation.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GLXY">Galaxy Digital’s stock</a> edged 0.33% lower in afternoon trade. However, on Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the company was in the ‘bullish’ territory.&nbsp;Other than “winning” on-chain, Novogratz said the plan is to make Galaxy Digital one of the biggest providers of data center services in the world. Its physical infrastructure already&nbsp;includes up to 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of data center capacity being developed near its Helios facility in Texas.&nbsp;He added that Galaxy Digital bought another 1 GW of capacity, but is waiting on approval from the authorities in Texas. “Assuming they approval all of it, which we think will happen in time, we’ll be a top 3 data center in the world, size wise,” he told Stocktwits.&nbsp;Novogratz said the company won’t be buying any more land until after the pending approvals come in. “But we’re also looking at other places. At one point you want some geographic diversification,” he said, explaining that the company’s second quarter (Q2) revenues next year will be a good signal to judge whether the data center segment is a growth business.Galaxy Digital reported Q2 results on Tuesday, with earnings per share (EPS) of $0.08 on $9.06 billion in revenue, missing Wall Street expectations of $0.15 per share and $12.51 billion in revenue. However, Novogratz noted that July was the company’s strongest month ever touting the addition of nearly $2 billion in fee-generating assets and the execution of a single $9 billion crypto trade — performance not captured in the Q2 results, which ended in June. “Crypto got its legs, literally in July,” Novogratz said.He pointed to the rise of treasury companies trying to replicate Strategy’s (MSTR) balance sheet model for the inflow. Novogratz said the company saw strong institutional demand for both staking and structured crypto products, which he believes could become a long-term source of recurring revenue. “It will grow if the crypto prices and these balance sheets grow,” he said.So far in 2025, Galaxy Digital’s stock has gained more than 56%. Meanwhile, Ethereum (ETH) showed the most gains, rising nearly 3% in the last 24 hours to trade around $3,700. Retail sentiment on Stocktwits around the second-largest cryptocurrency by market value was in the ‘bullish’ zone.According to data analytics platform&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/lookonchain/status/1948605256893694442">Lookonchain</a>, the fall in Bitcoin’s price may have something to do with Galaxy Digital (GLXY) moving thousands of BTC to exchanges. According to&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/lookonchain/status/1948665986573631687">data</a> from the platform, the company transferred nearly 30,000 Bitcoin, worth around $3.5 billion, to exchanges. Galaxy Digital then withdrew $1.15 billion in USDT from those exchanges. Its total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 18,504.&nbsp; Volatility in the crypto market led to more than $539.24 million in liquidations over the past day, according to Coinglass&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.coinglass.com/LiquidationData">data</a>. Most of the liquidations originated from long bets – traders who bet the price would rise, totaling around $380 million. Short liquidations were $158.35 million. Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH) experienced the largest liquidations of $159 million and $132 million, respectively.&nbsp;Among major cryptocurrencies, the only cryptocurrency to slide more than Bitcoin in the last 24 hours was Solana (SOL).&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/SOL.X">Solana’s price</a> dropped 2.8% over the past day. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the altcoin continued to trend in ‘extremely bullish’ territory during the same period.&nbsp;Tron (TRX) also gained after the founder of the Tron Ecosystem, Justin Sun, who is also an ally of President Donald Trump, rang the bell for Tron Inc.’s (TRON) debut at the Nasdaq on Wednesday. Shares of cryptocurrency&nbsp;fintech&nbsp;firm Galaxy Digital (GLXY)&nbsp;debuted on the Nasdaq on Friday, ending a&nbsp;years-long process that its founder and CEO, Michael Novogratz, called “unfair and infuriating.”In an interview with CNBC, Novogratz argued that the process, which typically takes 45 to 90 days, was stretched out to 1,320 days and took nine rounds of comments with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).&nbsp;“It felt un-American, unfair, infuriating,” Novogratz said.GLXY opened at $23.50 apiece on the Nasdaq on Friday.Novogratz said the prolonged SEC scrutiny significantly increased Galaxy’s audit costs, noting they were well above those&nbsp;paid by traditional firms like Jefferies. He expects those fees to decline by up to 40% now that the firm is listed in the U.S.“Scarcity makes you tougher,” Novogratz said. “We funded our company mostly through investment gains and trading.”He added that Galaxy Digital wasn’t the only crypto-linked company to suffer, pointing to eToro, the Israel-headquartered trading platform, which completed its Nasdaq listing earlier this week.
