According to a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/19/citi-says-its-the-best-buying-set-up-in-this-metal-in-50-years.html">CNBC report</a>, analyst Wenyu Yao expects aluminum prices to average around $4,000 per metric tonne in the second half of 2026, nearly 12% higher than current levels.In comparison, spot gold was trading at $4,473.66 per ounce at the time of writing, down 0.17%, while spot silver traded at around $74.67 per ounce after plunging more than 5% in the previous session.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Aluminum To Benefit From Supply Constraints</h2>Yao noted that supply shocks from the conflict and uncertainty in the Middle East are likely to send aluminum inventories to all-time lows, bolstering higher prices for the metal.The critical Strait of Hormuz has remained closed for commercial shipping for more than 80 days now. This has impacted not just global oil supply, but has also trapped aluminum shipments in the critical waterway.Yao said that the supply squeeze will push prices higher regardless of increases in demand. “Unlike previous downturns where weaker demand and eventual supply rationalization loosened the market, the current shock is supply-driven and much of the damage is already done,” Yao reportedly said, adding that the firm expects about 2.7Mt of deficit this year even under sluggish demand.Last month, economist Steve Hanke cited a JPMorgan warning about the aluminum market entering a “point of no return," to highlight how a deficit of about 2 million tons was forming. “COMMODITY MARKETS = ENTERING A SUPER CYCLE,” Hanke said in a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/steve_hanke/status/2048484759991390513">post</a> on X.<h2 class="st-heading-2">China Aluminum Output Surge</h2>Meanwhile, China, which accounts for nearly 60% of the world's primary aluminium supply, is rapidly ramping up output even as it contends with capacity constraints. (JPM) reportedly lowered its 2026 average gold price forecast late Sunday, citing softer near-term demand for precious metals, as investor interest cools amid elevated inflation and energy market uncertainty.The bank also expressed greater caution about silver, saying the extreme tightness in physical markets that fueled the metal’s recent outperformance is likely to fade, according to a Reuters <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.tradingview.com/news/reuters.com,2026:newsml_L1N41V031:0-jpmorgan-lowers-2026-gold-forecast-still-sees-rally-towards-6-000-on-renewed-demand/">report</a>.However, JPMorgan expects both precious metals to climb by the end of the year amid easing energy and inflation uncertainties, as well as a rebound in investor and central bank demand.Gold prices ​steadied in the overnight session heading into Monday ‌after slipping to a more than one-month low. Spot gold was trading around $4,530.33 per ounce at the time of writing. Meanwhile, spot silver was down 1.4%, trading around $74.89 per ounce.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Gold, Silver Targets From JPM</h2>JPMorgan now expects the 2026 average gold price to be around $5,243 per ounce, lowered from $5,708 earlier. However, despite the downgrade, the bank still expects prices to rise towards $6,000 per ounce by the end of the year.The New York City-based investment bank has said that it expects investors to gradually return to gold, supported by strong long-term bullish fundamentals. It also said that central bank demand would rebound in the second half of the year.As per the Reuters report, JPM forecasts quarterly central bank and investor demand for gold to average around 620 tons a quarter in 2026, compared with 750 tons last year.In the last trading session, gold fell to its lowest since March 30 amid ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran boosted oil prices, fuelling concerns around inflation and higher key interest rates.The bank also expects silver to reach an average of $90 per ounce by the fourth quarter of 2026. JPM’s stance is contrary to UBS, which recently lowered its outlook for global silver demand and reduced forecasts for the market deficit to between 60 million and 70 million ounces, down from previous estimates of about 300 million ounces.The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/gld">SPDR Gold Shares ETF (GLD)</a>, which is an exchange-traded fund that tracks the price of physical gold, has declined more than 13% since the start of the conflict. The debasement trade is still dormant,” he said in a separate <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/robin_j_brooks/status/2056031927615066416">post</a> on X.Meanwhile, economist Peter Schiff reiterated his bullish stance on precious metals. “Once again, rising oil prices and bond yields are causing gold and silver to sell off. Traders are fixated on the fact that these moves make it less likely that the Fed will cut interest rates. Gold, Silver Pullback Is Not The End Of Rally, JPMorgan Reportedly Says After Forecast Cut

Despite a short-term cut, JPMorgan expects both gold and silver prices to climb by the end of the year amid easing energy and inflation uncertainties.

Iran launched attacks targeting U.S. warships in the region, according to U.S. officials, prompting retaliatory American strikes on Iranian military positions. The escalation cast fresh doubt over ongoing peace negotiations between the two countries.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Bitcoin, Ethereum Lose Key Technical Levels</h2>The overall cryptocurrency market was down 1% on the day, keeping above $2.7 trillion. CoinGlass data&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.coinglass.com/liquidations">showed</a> nearly $300 million in crypto bets liquidated over the past 24 hours, with nearly $240 million coming from long positions that were forced to unwind.&nbsp;Bitcoin’s drop below $80,000 marked another setback for the market after the asset briefly climbed above $82,000 earlier this week for the first time in three months. This is possible,” Brandt said in a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/PeterLBrandt/status/2052116042361819443">post on X</a>.Silver has been on an upward march since last week, heading for a third consecutive day of gains and a sixth advance in the past seven sessions.At the time of writing, spot silver (XAG/USD) was up 4% to $80.4 an ounce, while silver futures for July 2026 deliveries climbed nearly 5% to $81 per ounce.Spot silver is tracking its best week since the final week of February.<h2 class="st-heading-2">GLD Is Glittering Again</h2>Gold has also been trending upwards lately, with spot prices (XAU/USD) rising 5% over the past three sessions.Spot gold was up nearly 1% at $4,734 an ounce, while contracts ending in July 2026 traded 1.1% higher at $4,764.5.In a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/hajiyev_rashad/status/2052264076437229946">post on X</a>, Rashad Hajiyev, founder at RM Capital and a former CFO of The International Bank of Azerbaijan, said, “Gold is on the brink of the most important breakout since the present bull run started in October 2023.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">Everything To Do With Oil</h2>“It's all to do with oil prices, which ⁠when they go down, tend to push up bond prices, which depresses yields because ​investors are now reducing expectations of rate hikes from central banks, and that in turn ​is supporting assets like gold and silver,” Fawad Razaqzada, market analyst at City Index, <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/world/india/gold-steady-markets-focus-potential-us-iran-peace-deal-2026-05-07/">told</a> Reuters on Thursday.Brent crude was down 2.5% and trading below $100 per barrel, as reports emerged that the U.S. and Iran are inching towards a temporary deal to stop the fighting, though key issues around Iran’s nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz remain unresolved.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Sentiment Around SLV, GLD Remain Bearish</h2>The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SLV/sentiment">iShares Silver Trust</a> (SLV) spiked nearly 4%, though retail sentiment on Stocktwits remained in the ‘bearish’ zone over the past three months. <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GLD">SPDR Gold Shares ETF</a> edged 0.8% higher, but retail sentiment mirrored that of SLV.Shares of silver miners Pan American Silver Corp.
