<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Foxconn and OpenAI announced a broad partnership to co-design and manufacture servers and other data center hardware in the U.S.</li><li>Separately, Foxconn has committed to invest an initial $5 billion towards expanding its manufacturing capacity in the country.</li><li>OpenAI CEO Sam Altman noted the deal’s importance for the U.S., calling AI infrastructure a “generational opportunity to reindustrialize America.”</li></ul>Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., also known as Foxconn, said on Friday it would spend an initial $1 billion to $5 billion to expand its manufacturing operations in the United States, a move aimed at serving the server manufacturing needs of Nvidia and OpenAI.Hours earlier, Foxconn and OpenAI announced a broad partnership to co-design and manufacture servers and other data center hardware in the U.S. Financial terms were not disclosed.Foxconn has factories in Wisconsin, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Indiana, according to its website.<h2 class="st-heading-2">What Does It Mean?</h2>The moves are seen as the Taiwanese company’s bid to expand into the lucrative data center space, partly to reduce its reliance on assembling iPhones for Apple, Bloomberg&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-11-20/openai-partners-with-foxconn-to-design-hardware-for-data-centers">reported</a>.The partnership is only the latest for OpenAI, which in recent months has struck multiple multibillion-dollar deals with cloud computing providers and chipmakers, such as Nvidia, Broadcom, and Advanced Micro Devices, to set up data centers.&nbsp;Foxconn and OpenAI will work together to resolve the particular pain points of getting artificial intelligence data centers up and running over the key first few months of operation, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said in an interview with Bloomberg Television.<h2 class="st-heading-2">‘Generational Opportunity’ For US</h2>“Anything can happen with the IT equipment, with the power equipment, with the cooling equipment. Foxconn To Pour Up To $5B Into US Plants After Striking Servers Deal With OpenAI

Apple will produce a higher portion of its next-generation iPhone 17 bound for the U.S. in India, including all four variants, as it seeks to reduce its reliance on production in China, according to a Bloomberg News report on Tuesday.It would mark the first time that all new variations, including pro-level versions, will ship from the South Asian country from the get-go, according to the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-08-19/apple-expands-iphone-production-in-india-for-us-bound-new-models">report</a>, which cites unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter.The tech giant is expanding its production in India, managed by partner firms.&nbsp;There are presently five factories in the country, including two recently opened facilities: Tata Group's plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Foxconn's production hub close to the Bangalore airport.Apple stock was 0.3% lower in Tuesday’s premarket trading.The Tim Cook-led company has been moving iPhone assembly to India from China for the past few years, but a lion’s share of the components are still made in China.According to Bloomberg, $7.5 billion worth of iPhones were exported from India in the January to April period, an acceleration from $17 billion worth of iPhone exports over the full year 2024.Apple made a bigger push to expand India production around the time U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff rates were announced, which are particularly steep for China, pending final changes.Apple said earlier this month it expects a $1.1 billion headwind in the current quarter from tariffs.The company will release the iPhone 17 line, which includes a widely anticipated slimmed-down iPhone and meaningfully redesigned high-end variants, likely next month.Cook faces pressure from Trump, who wants Apple to produce more of its devices in the U.S. At a recent White House event, Cook and Trump allayed some investor concerns about a detrimental government move for Apple, as the former announced a new $100 billion investment commitment towards domestic manufacturing.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AAPL">Apple shares</a> are down 7.8% year-to-date, compared to the 9.7% rise in the benchmark S&amp;P 500. Apple to Produce All Four iPhone 17 Variants In India For First Time Amid Rising Reliance On Country For US Shipments

The move comes as Apple seeks to lessen its reliance on production in China, which faces steep U.S. tariffs.

Apple supplier Hon Hai Precision, widely known as Foxconn, reported strong quarterly results for the three months ended June 2025, thanks to artificial intelligence-related demand for server products.The company reported second-quarter earnings of NT$44.36 billion ($1.48 billion), ahead of the NT$38.8-billion consensus estimate compiled by LSEG,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/world/china/ai-demand-propels-electronics-giant-foxconns-second-quarter-profit-2025-08-13/">according</a> to Reuters.Quarterly revenue, previously disclosed, rose 16% to NT$1.79 trillion.&nbsp;Foxconn, which gained prominence as Apple’s largest contractor, has now diversified its revenue stream, and its focus areas also include assembling servers for tech giants such as Nvidia and Amazon.
