The network operates through thousands of independent validator nodes that process transactions and execute smart contracts on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts. The network is faster and cheaper than Bitcoin, with new blocks mined every 75 seconds and transaction fees typically just a fraction of a cent. Privacy adoption has surged in 2025, with over 30% of total ZEC supply now held in fully shielded pools. He said it included a mechanism called a “tapleaf” built specifically to allow future compatibility with post-quantum cryptography.&nbsp;Simply put, even if quantum computers eventually break Bitcoin's current signature system, there is already a built-in pathway in the protocol to switch to a quantum-safe alternative without losing access to funds.To substantiate his claim, Back cited an&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://eprint.iacr.org/2025/1307">academic proof</a> by Tim Ruffing, a cryptographer and blockchain researcher, which mathematically demonstrated that Taproot's commitment scheme is post-quantum secure. Bloomberg Analyst Bets Big On Bitcoin ETFs, Says It Is 'Hot Sauce' In A Portfolio

Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart said that many investors saw Bitcoin as a hedge, while gold remained under-allocated, suggesting room for both assets to grow.

The data shows realized losses by wallet size using a 7-day moving average. This suggests dispersion rather than accumulation, even if prices have failed to rebound.Taken together, the data reveal that losses are being incurred throughout the network, while large holders remain active but do not increase their positions, indicating that whales are selling into weakness and incurring losses. Historically, this sort of&nbsp;behaviour has been connected with capitulation stages,&nbsp;where even well-capitalized investors begin to de-risk.While this does not necessarily signal an immediate market bottom, it often appears in the later stages of corrections.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/bitcoin">Bitcoin’s price</a> was at $67,147, up 0.4 in the last 24 hours. However, the 365-day moving average remained elevated at 87.5%.CryptoQuant analyst Axel Adler Jr. noted that a full market reset is normally marked by a sharp decline in the 365-day average. During the 2018–2019 cycle, that metric fell to 63.8% before the crypto winter set in. “The current picture is different,” he wrote.&nbsp;According to him, the market is experiencing severe internal compression in profitability, but it is still far from a true structural reset. “As long as the long-term average holds near 87.5%, this is better described as a prolonged cyclical correction with elevated two-way volatility, rather than a full bearish-phase reset,” Adler wrote.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Short Covering Supports Bitcoin Price, Not Fresh Demand</h2>JDK Analysis also suggested that Bitcoin may be showing a false show of strength. It noted that spot markets are seeing active selling, while futures data showed aggressive buying largely driven by short covering rather than new long positions, which has helped keep prices supported near current levels.&nbsp;In a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/The_JDK99/status/2039250945788325909?s=20">post</a> on X, JDK said that as short positions unwind, the temporary bid supporting prices could fade, leaving the market exposed to continued selling pressure. In one case, transactions linked to a sanctioned Russian drone manufacturer, KB Vostok, showed repeated payments that closely matched the listed price of its drones. Researchers matched transactions ranging between $2,200 and $3,500 with the listed prices of drones and related components,<h2 class="st-heading-2">Intermediaries Add Layers To Procurement Chains</h2>Besides Russia, the report pointed to Iran-linked networks using crypto in procurement and payment flows, reflecting a broader shift among sanctioned actors toward alternative financial rails for cross-border transactions.Chainalysis also highlighted indirect channels. Electronics and dual-use component vendors selling through third-party platforms such as Alibaba, a Chinese e-commerce platform, accepted crypto payments, allowing buyers to buy drone parts while hiding their identities. These transactions often moved through over-the-counter brokers and exchanges, adding layers of complexity while still leaving an on-chain footprint.
