The overall volume in August 2023 was 8,865 MU including green market trade of 242.3 MU, ancillary market trade of 40MU, 2.53 lakh RECs (equivalent to 253 MU) and 1.03 lakh ESCerts (equivalent to 103 MU).The power exchange said that the country experienced its lowest August rainfall since 1901, resulting in hot weather conditions. This, in turn, led to an unprecedented surge in electricity demand for the month.According to data published by Grid-India, the countrys electricity consumption was recorded at 152 BU in August 2023, an increase of 16% year-on-year. Notably, on 31 August 2023, the country witnessed an all-time high peak demand of 236 GW along with the highest ever single day energy consumption of 5126 MU. Due to the combination of higher demand and supply constraints, prices on the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) during the month reached Rs 6.89unit, marking a 33% year-on-year increase.The Day-Ahead Market (DAM) volume increased to 3,810 MU in August 2023, from 3,551 MU in August 2022, growing 7.3% YoY. The average market clearing price was Rs. 6.89 unit during the month, up by 33% over the corresponding month last year.The Real-Time Electricity Market (RTM) achieved 2,738 MU in August 2023, registering an increase of 21% YoY.IEX Green Market, comprising the Green Day-Ahead and Green Term-Ahead Market segments, achieved 242.3 MU volume during August 2023.The Green Day-Ahead Market (G-DAM) achieved 159.7 MU volume during the month, with a weighted average price of Rs 7.16 per unit. The segment saw participation from 193 market participants during the month.The Green Term-Ahead Market (G-TAM) achieved 82.6 MU volume in August 2023, with average monthly price of SolarRs 5.25unit and for Non-SolarRs 6.96unit and for HydroRs 8.80unit.A total of 2.53 lakh RECs (equivalent to 253 MU) were cleared in the trading session at IEX held on Wednesday, 30 August, at the price of Rs. 575REC. The next REC trading session at the Exchange is scheduled on Wednesday, 27th September 2023.During August 2023, 1.03 lakh ESCerts (equivalent to 103 MU) were traded on IEX, at the floor price of Rs. 1,840 per ESCert.IEX is Indias premier energy exchange providing a nationwide, automated trading platform for physical delivery of electricity, renewable power, renewable energy certificates and energy saving certificates.The companys consolidated net profit increased 9.7% to Rs 75.83 crore on 5.8% jump in net sales to Rs 104.04 crore in Q1 FY24 over Q1 FY23.The scrip rose 0.88% to Rs 138.25 on the BSE.

IEX attained 8,865 MU overall volume, including green market trade of 242.3 MU, ancillary market trade of 40MU, 2.53 Lac RECs (equivalent to 253 MU) and 1.03 Lac ESCerts (equivalent to 103 MU). It is noteworthy to mention that IEX achieved the highest ever single day volume of 135.28 MUs in RTM on August 24, 2023.The RTM segment enables distribution utilities and industries with greater flexibility and efficient optimisation of portfolios by balancing their power demand-supply on a real-time basis. The Term-Ahead Market (TAM) and the Day Ahead Contingency Market (DAC), comprising intra-day, contingency, daily &amp; weekly contracts, and contracts up to 3 months, traded 1,673 MU during August ‘23, higher by 131.5% on YoY basis. IEX achieves 21% growth in traded electricity volumes in Aug'23 

Indian Energy Exchange Ltd gained for a fifth straight session today. The stock is quoting at Rs 130.95, up 3.76% on the day as on 12:39 IST on the NSE. The benchmark NIFTY is up around 0.59% on the day, quoting at 19366.55. The Sensex is at 65157.03, up 0.5%. Indian Energy Exchange Ltd has risen around 3.19% in last one month. Meanwhile, Nifty Energy index of which Indian Energy Exchange Ltd is a constituent, has risen around 2.04% in last one month and is currently quoting at 19597.65, up 0.3% on the day. The volume in the stock stood at 157.18 lakh shares today, compared to the daily average of 64.28 lakh shares in last one month. The benchmark September futures contract for the stock is quoting at Rs 131.6, up 3.74% on the day. Indian Energy Exchange Ltd is down 17.12% in last one year as compared to a 10.42% spurt in NIFTY and a 8.32% spurt in the Nifty Energy index.The PE of the stock is 37.77 based on TTM earnings ending June 23.

Indian Energy Exchange Ltd soars 3.76%, gains for fifth straight session

Indian Energy Exchange achieved 8,522 MU overall volume in July 2023, including green market trade of 275 MU, 6.24 Lac RECs (equivalent to 624 MU) and 70,222 ESCerts (equivalent to 70 MU). The overall volume traded during the month increased 19% on YoY basis. The price during July ‘23 was Rs. 4.55unit, lower 16% YoY, due to improved sell side liquidity on the Exchange platform. The supply scenario continued to ease during the month due to robust coal production, reduction in prices of e-auction coal and imported fuel. In the coming months, higher liquidity is expected to result in more competitive prices on the Exchanges, giving further optimisation opportunities to Discoms and Open Access consumers.As per data published by GRID-INDIA, energy met in the country during July 23 stood at 139 BU, increasing 9% on YoY basis.ELECTRICITY MARKET: DAYAHEAD, TERMAHEAD &amp; REAL-TIME MARKETThe Day-Ahead Market (DAM) volume increased to 3,976 MU in July 23, from 3,547 MU in July 22, growing 12% YoY. The average market clearing price was Rs. 4.55 unit during the month, lower by 16% over the corresponding month last year. The Real-Time Electricity Market (RTM) achieved 2,540 MU in July ‘23, registering 19% YoY growth. There were 757 participants in this segment during the month. The RTM segment enables distribution utilities and industries with greater flexibility and efficient optimisation of portfolios, by balancing their power demand-supply on a real-time basis. The Term-Ahead Market (TAM), comprising intra-day, contingency, daily &amp; weekly contracts, and contracts up to 3 months, traded 1036 MU during July ‘23, higher by an impressive 136% on YoY basis. GREEN MARKET: GREEN DAY-AHEAD &amp; GREEN TERM-AHEAD MARKETIEX Green Market, comprising the Green Day-Ahead and Green Term-Ahead Market segments, achieved 275 MU volume during July 23. The Green Day-Ahead Market (G-DAM) achieved 213 MU volume during the month, with a weighted average price of Rs 4.95 per unit. The segment saw participation from 200 market participants during the month.The Green Term-Ahead Market (G-TAM) achieved 62 MU volume in July ‘23, with average monthly price of Rs 3.10unit for Solar, Rs 4.99unit for Non-Solar and Rs 4.45unit for Hydro.RENEWABLE ENERGY CERTIFICATE MARKET (REC MARKET)A total of 6.24 lac RECs (equivalent to 624 MU) were cleared in the trading session at IEX held on Wednesday, 26th July, at the price of Rs. 650REC.
