Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Carey stock garnered retail attention premarket on Wednesday after its fourth-quarter sales Wall Street estimates.The real estate investment trust (REIT) reported quarterly revenue of $406.17 million, compared with the average analysts’ estimate of $404.27 million, according to Koyfin data.However, its net income attributable fell 67.4% to $47 million, compared to the year-ago quarter, due to lower gain on the sale of real estate and a mark-to-market loss recognized on the company’s shares of Lineage of $90.4 million.Its adjusted funds from operations (AFFO), a metric used to gauge the profitability of REITs, rose to $1.21 per share, compared with $1.19 per share in the year-ago quarter.&nbsp; The company attributed the rise to outstanding rents collected in connection with a disposition during the current-year period, along with the impact of net investment activity and rent escalations.The company added that its occupancy stood at 98.6% in 2024, slightly higher than the 98.1% reported last year.“The fourth quarter concluded a pivotal year for W. P. Carey during which we successfully exited the office sector, setting the foundation for future growth,” said CEO Jason Fox.W.P. W.P. Carey On Watch After Upbeat Q4 Revenue: Retail Stays Extremely Bullish

Prologis (PLD) shares rose 5.1% on Tuesday after the real estate investment trust’s (REIT) fourth-quarter profit more than doubled.The company reported a net income of $1.28 billion, or $1.37 per share, for the three months ended Dec. 31, compared with $629 million, or $0.68 per share in profit, in the year-ago quarter.The San Francisco-based firm reported core funds from operations (FFO), a metric used to gauge the profitability of REITs, of $1.50 per share, compared with the average analysts' estimate of $1.39 per share, according to FinChat data.Its fourth-quarter revenue of $2.20 billion topped Wall Street's expectation of $1.94 billion."Post-election leasing activity has been strong, and our ongoing conversations with customers support our expectation that the market is nearing an inflection point," said CEO Hamid R. Moghadam in a statement.Prologis, which has some form of ownership interest in 1.3&nbsp;billion square feet of property, said its customer retention rose to 78.4% compared with 73.1% in the year-ago quarter.The company added that its average occupancy stood at 95.8%, slightly below the 97.4% reported last year.Its earnings also benefited from selling the Chicago-based Elk Grove data center to HMC Capital.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/PLD">Prologis</a> forecast net earnings in the range of $3.45 per share to $3.70 per share for 2025.It projected core FFO to be in the range of $5.65 to $5.81 per share.Retail sentiment on Stocktwits jumped to ‘extremely bullish’ (90/100) territory from ‘neutral’(52/100) a day ago, hitting the highest level in a year.
