Mumbai flags off WIAA Women’s Car Rally 2026 with 200 participants

Mumbai, March 28 : The WIAA Women's Car Rally to Valley 2026 was flagged off from NSCI, Mumbai, on Saturday, in a ceremony that blended the energy of a carnival with the conviction of a movement. Over 200 women participants were part of the rally, with vehicles decorated around themes such as women's empowerment, cancer awareness, gender equality, and many more, before setting off on the route towards Khopoli.The rally was flagged off by Nitin Dossa, Chairman, Western India Automobile Association (WIAA), along with JK Tyre officials, with the atmosphere at NSCI alive well before engines fired. Participants arrived in themed attire, vehicles adorned to match their chosen causes, and families and supporters lining the start, giving the occasion the feel of a festival. The rally follows the Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format, where precision, consistency, and teamwork take precedence over speed. Unlike conventional races, the TSD format rewards accuracy and strategic pacing as contestants navigate out of Mumbai onto the hilly roads, covering approximately 125 km before reaching the Novotel Imagicaa hotel, making it as much a test of strategy and precision as of driving skill.

Apollo Tyres has been finalised as the new jersey sponsor of the Indian cricket team, replacing online gaming platform Dream11, a senior BCCI official told PTI on Tuesday.“The deal has been signed with Apollo Tyres. We will announce it soon,” the BCCI official said.Last month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/online-gaming-bill-breaks-358-crore-bcci-dream11-partnership-nazara-extend-slump/chssisrRd1R">terminated</a> its partnership with fantasy sports platform Dream11 following the Indian parliament's passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill. The three-year deal was reportedly worth ₹358 crore.The bill banned real-money online gaming, including fantasy sports, and prohibits any advertising or sponsorship of such platforms, making the association between the two parties legally untenable.Currently, Team India is competing in the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi without a jersey sponsor.BCCI Signs Apollo Tyres: New Deal DetailsAccording to a report by the Times of India, Apollo Tyres will pay around ₹4.5 crore per match, more than Dream11’s rate of about ₹4 crore. The agreement covers around 130 international and domestic fixtures. The new deal is worth ₹579 crore.The BCCI initiated the expression of interest (EOI) process on September 2 for its “Lead Sponsor” rights, explicitly barring participation from sectors related to gaming, betting, cryptocurrency, tobacco, and other similar industries.JK Tyre and Canva were among the other bidders vying for this contract. Indian tyre stocks surged on Tuesday, driven by hopes that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) would be lowered in the revised slab.At the time of writing, <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/APOLLOTYRE.NSE">Apollo Tyres’ stock</a> was up 4.57% at ₹488.95, <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/CEATLTD.NSE">CEAT</a> surged 5.5% to ₹3,379, <a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/JKTYRE.NSE">JK Tyre</a> was trading 5.1% higher at ₹349, and <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/TOLINS.NSE">Tolins Tyres</a> was up 4.9% at ₹160.9.Proposal To Reduce GSTThe Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA), representing six major tyre companies that account for over 90% of India’s tyre production, has urged the government to reduce GST rates on tyres as part of the upcoming rate rationalisation exercise.Currently, all categories of automotive tyres attract the highest GST slab of 28%, while tractor tyres are taxed at 18% and aircraft tyres at just 5%.ATMA highlighted that tyres are critical enablers of mobility across sectors, including trucks, buses, passenger cars, two- and three-wheelers, tractors, and construction and mining equipment. Given their essential role, the industry body argued that tyres should not be placed in the same category as luxury goods.The association added that in key sectors such as transportation, agriculture, mining, and construction, tyres account for a significant portion of operating costs. Reducing GST to 5% would ease the burden on small traders, farmers, and enterprises.The GST Council will convene on September 3 and 4 to deliberate and finalize rate rationalization measures. Tyre industry set for 7-8% growth in FY26 on strong replacement demand

The domestic tyre industry is likely to register a 7-8 per cent growth in the current fiscal on the back of replacement demand, according to people tracking the sector. JK Tyre & Industries MD Anshuman Singhania said the Indian tyre industry remains an export-heavy manufacturing sector, with outbound shipments surpassing Rs 25,000 crore in FY25. The growth is attributed to consistent investments in capacity expansion, improvements in manufacturing efficiency and increased focus on enhancing the R&D capabilities, he noted. Apollo Tyres CFO Gaurav Kumar told analysts that the company expects the demand momentum to improve in the second half of the fiscal year, with a rebound in infrastructure and mining segments post-monsoon. Icra Senior Vice President & Co-Group Head (Corporate Ratings) Srikumar Krishnamurthy said domestic tyre demand from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in commercial and passenger vehicle segments is likely to lag the growth in two-wheelers. However, exports are likely to face headwinds from ongoing geopolitical developments and uncertainties around US tariffs, he stated.
