Terra is a decentralized financial payment network that rebuilds the traditional payment stack on the blockchain. Luna is the reserve currency of the Terra platform. TerraClassicUSD (USTC) was originally launched as an algorithmic stablecoin within the Terra ecosystem, designed to maintain a peg to the US dollar through an automated market-Module mechanism with LUNA (now LUNC). However, following the collapse of the Terra ecosystem in May 2022, the core stabilizing mechanism was disabled, and USTC lost its peg to the US dollar.  Since then, USTC has been a freely traded digital asset, with its price determined purely by market supply and demand. It no longer functions as a stablecoin, nor does it have an active peg-maintenance mechanism.  USTC remains an integral part of the Terra Classic ecosystem, where it continues to be used for various purposes, including DeFi applications , gas fees and trading. Unlike traditional fiat-backed assets, USTC’s value fluctuates based on market conditions and community participation.

TerraClassicUSD

TerraClassicUSD is gaining momentum as investors react to ongoing ecosystem governance proposals, active token burn initiatives, and optimistic speculation regarding a potential repeg. As the foundational asset of the protocol, LUNA functions as the engine for the network where value moves as users pay gas fees to interact with decentralized applications. Its primary value proposition lies in its ability to scale rewards for stakers as developer activity and transaction volumes grow within the ecosystem.  The network maintains security through a Proof of Stake system using the Tendermint consensus mechanism, where 130 independent validators compare transactions to ensure the integrity of the blockchain. Users who do not want to run their own node can delegate their tokens to these validators to help record and verify data. To ensure accountability, the protocol employs slashing, a penalty that removes a small portion of staked tokens if a validator misbehaves or goes offline.  Originally created by Terraform Labs, the project has evolved into a community-governed model where independent developer groups and users maintain the protocol. Terraform Labs currently manages a claims portal for users impacted by previous network events as part of ongoing legal and bankruptcy proceedings. The token serves multiple roles, including paying for gas fees to interact with dApps , providing voting power for governance proposals , and earning rewards through a fixed 7% annual inflation rate.

Terra 2.0 (LUNA) is currently sparking intense debate within the crypto community, driven by ongoing legal developments surrounding the founder and speculation regarding the project's long-term viability. Developers interact with a simple API atop a permissionless network that routes messages and ensures network security via proof-of-stake consensus.  Axelar is a blockchain that connects blockchains. To do this securely, Axelar network uses proof-of-stake consensus. Network validators produce new blocks, participate in multiparty signing and vote on external chain states. Tokenholders stake the AXL token, delegating tokens to a validator’s staking pool and receiving rewards, minus the validator’s commission.  The AXL token is used for governance and to pay network transaction fees to validators and tokenholders. However, users of the Axelar network do not need to hold the token. Conversions into AXL tokens and destination-chain tokens are handled on the back end, so that users need only pay gas once, in the source-chain token.  Axelar network rewards are “inflationary” — they increase the total supply of AXL — but there is potential for supply to become deflationary based on the transaction fee mechanic described above.
