Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Comerica (CMA) shares fell 5% on Wednesday after the company missed the Wall Street estimate for fourth-quarter earnings.The lender reported an adjusted net earnings of $1.20 per share for the October to December quarter, compared with average analysts’ estimate of $1.26 per share, according to FinChat data.Its net interest income (NII) fell marginally to $575 million compared to last year.“Loans were pressured by paydowns in Commercial Real Estate, but we saw promising signals across other businesses that support our outlook for growth in 2025,” CEO Curtis C. Farmer said in a statement.The bank said that loans decreased $244 million to $50.6 billion sequentially during the fourth quarter, driven lower by a $225 million decline in Commercial Real Estate and a $132 million fall in Corporate Banking. (<a class="mention" data-mention="$WGO" data-symbol-id="WGO" href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/WGO" target="_blank">$WGO</a>) shares fell over 7% at the open on Wednesday, poised for their worst day since October 2022 if losses hold, following a significant miss on quarterly profit estimates.&nbsp;For the fiscal fourth quarter, Winnebago reported a net loss of $29.1 million, or $1.01 per share, a sharp decline from a net income of $43.8 million, or $1.28 per share, during the same period last year.&nbsp;Adjusted earnings, which excluded non-recurring items such as a goodwill write-off related to its Chris-Craft business, dropped to $0.28 per share from $1.41, significantly missing the FactSet consensus estimate of $0.89.CEO Michael Happe blamed the company’s underperformance to sluggish retail demand and operational inefficiencies within the Winnebago brand.&nbsp;He noted that the RV industry is grappling with various challenges, including uncertain retail conditions, higher inventory carrying costs, and increased dealer hesitancy, leading to heightened promotional efforts.Following the disappointing earnings report, retail sentiment on Stocktwits turned ‘bearish’, accompanied by an ‘extremely high’ message volume.&nbsp;<stembedurl>https://stocktwits.com/nostic/message/589810371</stembedurl>Some investors seemed encouraged by better-than-expected revenue figures.
