The Bitcoin ecosystem continues to evolve with innovations like Ordinals, which emerged in January 2023 to enable NFT-like functionality directly on Bitcoin, and BRC-20 tokens, an experimental standard for creating fungible tokens using Ordinal inscriptions. BTCFi (Bitcoin Finance) represents emerging financial applications extending beyond Bitcoin's traditional role, with protocols like Babylon allowing Bitcoin holders to stake BTC to secure Proof of Stake chains.

The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. Serina Therapeutics Stock Slumps Pre-Market After FDA Places Hold On Application To Initiate Clinical Trials For Experimental Therapy

Shares of Serina Therapeutics surged 37% in after-hours trading on Monday after the company said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) supported advancing its Parkinson’s drug candidate SER-252 (POZ-apomorphine) into a registrational clinical program.The stock ended Monday’s session down 0.2% at $5.64, but surged 37.2% to $7.74 in after-hours trading following the FDA update.The FDA feedback followed a recent Type B meeting and paves the way for Serina to move forward with a streamlined regulatory strategy.“People living with advanced Parkinson’s need more consistent relief from motor fluctuations and our data to date suggest that SER-252 may reliably improve daily function,” CEO Steve Ledger said, adding that the company’s plan is designed to be both rigorous and capital efficient.The proposed program will leverage prior knowledge of apomorphine while incorporating Serina’s POZ-enabled profile. According to the FDA’s feedback, Serina’s first study could be designed as part of its overall registrational trial program, subject to final documentation at the time of IND submission.Serina plans to submit a U.S. IND application in the fourth quarter of 2025 and begin dosing patients in Australia later this year, with the data expected to feed into the global registrational package.
