Skild previously raised $300 million at a $1.5 billion valuation in its Series A round from Jeff Bezos, SoftBank and Khosla Ventures.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Son’s AI Investment Strategy</h2>The potential Skild deal aligns with Masayoshi Son’s push to accelerate SoftBank’s AI investments. Speaking in Tokyo last week, Son said he “was crying” when SoftBank sold its entire Nvidia stake for $5.83 billion, insisting the shares were sold only because the company needed capital for OpenAI and new data-center projects. Son said “I don’t want to sell a single share,” according to a CNBC&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/12/02/softbank-masayoshi-son-crying-nvidia-stake-ai-bet-artificial-intelligence-bubble-vision-fund.html">report</a>.SoftBank’s AI positions have supported strong results: second-quarter net profit rose to 2.5 trillion yen ($16.6 billion), helped by valuation gains in OpenAI. Son has said SoftBank is “all in” on OpenAI and predicted the startup could eventually become the world’s most valuable company. ‘I Was Crying’: Softbank Chief Masayoshi Son Reportedly Sold Nvidia Only To Raise Cash For OpenAI Investment 

The SoftBank CEO said he would not have sold Nvidia shares if the firm had unlimited money to make its next round of investments in the artificial intelligence sector.

This is the third tranche following the $40 billion investment commitment SoftBank gave in March. SoftBank’s total effective investment after deducting the amount to be syndicated to co-investors is $30 billion.<h2 class="st-heading-2">SoftBank’s Q2 Results</h2>SoftBak stated that its SVFs generated an investment gain of 3.42 trillion yen ($22.17 billion), with approximately 40% of that coming from SVF1 and 56% from SVF2. The gain at SVF1 was due to its investments in Coupang, DiDi Global, and a higher fair price for portfolio companies.The gain at SVF2 was primarily attributable to an unrealized valuation gain of 980.51 billion yen on its equity interests in OpenAI as of the end of the second quarter and a derivative gain of 911.34 million yen on the OpenAI forward contract.SoftBank’s second-quarter net income more than doubled to 2.5 trillion yen. (ARM) subsidiary as collateral to finance an investment in U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) startup and Stargate project partner OpenAI.Minato, Tokyo-based SoftBank is nearing a deal with a few lenders for a margin loan, amounting to $5 billion, offering shares of Arm as collateral security, Bloomberg&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-10/softbank-in-talks-for-5-billion-margin-loan-backed-by-arm-stock">reported,</a> citing people familiar with the matter. The total margin loans from Arm shares would now be $18.5 billion, including the $13.5 billion raised previously.
