Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

Silver is back in the spotlight. Prices have surged to levels last seen more than four decades ago, climbing to about $49.5 per troy ounce in October, nearly matching the 2011 peak and brushing up against the record from 1980.A Familiar Cycle, But Can It Last?SEBI-registered analyst&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/rks_technicals">Rakesh Singhal</a> said silver’s long-term pattern looks strikingly familiar. After topping out in 1980 and again in 2011, the metal spent years correcting and moving sideways before rallying again.&nbsp;<stembedurl>https://stocktwits.com/rks_technicals/message/631783927</stembedurl>This latest run to $49.5 marks the third major upswing, but it came faster than before, arriving just 14 years after the last peak.Singhal said silver is once again testing a critical resistance zone, raising the question of whether it can hold these levels. While booming demand from clean energy, electric vehicles, and electronics continues to lend support, he warned that the metal may soon face selling pressure.“Profit-taking could start anytime,” he said, adding that if momentum cools, silver might see a gradual pullback rather than a crash. He also pointed out that inventories at major exchanges such as COMEX and London are still tight, which could add to volatility.Industrial Boom Keeps Demand StrongSEBI-registered analyst&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/ra_vishaltrehan">Vishal Trehan</a> sees the rally through a different lens. He forecasts a cumulative shortfall of almost 796 million ounces from 2021 to 2025, which is nearly an entire year's worth of global mine production. Recycling, he noted, hasn’t kept up.He also said the U.S. government’s decision to label silver a “critical mineral” could lead to strategic stockpiling and faster mine approvals. For now, he believes the supply crunch will continue to support prices, though he advises investors to stay disciplined and use trailing stop-losses to protect gains.Widening Premiums Halt New ETF SubscriptionsWith silver prices hitting record highs and premiums widening, Kotak MF, SBI MF, and UTI AMC have paused fresh lump-sum investments in their silver ETF fund of funds. Kotak Mutual Fund has temporarily halted fresh lump-sum and switch-in investments in its Kotak Silver ETF Fund of Fund (FoF), effective Friday. This decision comes in response to a significant surge in the domestic silver premium, which has risen from approximately 0.5% in early September to 5.7% as of October 9.Kotak said that investments are halted as the current premium makes new purchases less efficient. The fund clarified that Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) and redemptions will continue without interruption.The underlying Kotak Silver ETF, being a listed fund, remains open for trading and is not subject to suspension. Kotak MF said fresh subscriptions to the fund of funds will resume once the spot premium stabilizes and aligns with the import parity price. Despite the temporary halt, the fund house reaffirmed its positive long-term outlook on silver.“Keeping in mind the high spot premium for Silver over the import parity price, Kotak MF is suspending lump sum subscription in Kotak Silver ETF Fund of Fund. SIPs and redemptions will continue as before in the regular course of business. Kotak Silver ETF, being a listed fund, doesn’t have a provision for suspension. Silver ETF Prices Hit Record; Kotak Mutual Fund Puts Fresh Investments On Hold

The move comes amid record silver prices and supply tightness in the domestic market. The underlying Kotak Silver ETF remains open for trading and is not subject to suspension. 

Gold and silver continue to attract retail investor interest, but the drivers behind their prices extend well beyond seasonal demand.As of Thursday, 24-carat gold was priced at ₹10,255 per gram, while silver stood at ₹117 per gram.SEBI-registered research analyst&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/Sumesh_guleria">Sumesh Guleria</a> said a common misconception among Indian investors is that jewellery demand is the primary factor driving precious metal prices.&nbsp;<stembedurl>https://stocktwits.com/Sumesh_guleria/message/624073680</stembedurl>In reality, global macroeconomic trends, industrial demand, and central bank activity are playing a far larger role.In gold’s case, Guleria said roughly 50% of global demand comes from jewellery, but 23% is from investments, often used as a hedge against uncertainty, while 21% comes from central banks like the RBI and others around the world.&nbsp;He noted that after the U.S. froze Russia’s dollar reserves, other countries ramped up gold buying to reduce dependence on the dollar, fearing similar sanctions.High inflation and economic volatility since the COVID-19 pandemic, including policy shifts like Donald Trump’s tariffs, have also pushed global investors toward gold, he added.Turning to silver, Guleria said it’s “an industrial metal first,” with 50% of demand tied to industrial use, including solar energy and electric vehicles (EVs). Silver prices have retreated after testing a critical resistance zone near $38, validating a&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/silver-hits-resistance-zone-pullback-expected/chl7OsYRbzb">June 9 warning</a> by SEBI-registered analyst&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/Rajneesh_Sharma_Official">Rajneesh Sharma</a>, who had flagged the $37.5–$38 area as a key exhaustion level.<stembedurl>https://stocktwits.com/Rajneesh_Sharma_Official/message/618421675</stembedurl>At the time of writing,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/XAGUSD">spot silver (XAGUSD)</a> was trading at $35.62, down 2.12% on the day, while the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SILVERBEES.NSE">Nippon India Silver ETF</a> was quoted at ₹102.11, down 1.94% as of 11:56 am IST on June 20.The exhaustion level aligned with both horizontal supply and the upper boundary of silver’s ascending channel, according to the analyst.In a follow-up published Friday, Sharma said silver was rejected “cleanly” at resistance, slipping to around $35.70 — down about 4.5% from recent highs.&nbsp;He cited weak volume above $37.5 as confirmation that the supply zone remains intact.Sharma said that as long as silver holds above $38 on a weekly basis, it remains at risk for more downside.&nbsp;He now expects consolidation or a deeper correction, with support at $34.15 and $31.60.The analyst had previously cautioned against chasing long trades into this zone, calling it a “low-reward, high-risk” area.
