The move underscores the U.A.E.’s long-term economic strategy and shifting energy priorities, including increased investment in domestic production, according to a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.wam.ae/a/bzxzuh7">statement</a>.&nbsp;The decision follows a review of the country’s production policy and capacity outlook.<h2 class="st-heading-2">End Of A Near Sixty-Year Partnership</h2>The move effectively ends a partnership spanning nearly six decades. The United Arab Emirates joined OPEC in 1967, seven years after the group was founded in Baghdad by Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela. After the U.A.E.’s exit, the organization will be down to 11 member nations.The country said it will raise oil production gradually in line with market demand while continuing to work with partners to develop its resources and support growth. It added that the move does not change its commitment to global market stability or cooperation with producers and consumers.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">UAE Criticizes Arab States Amid Iran Shelling</h2>According to a Reuters&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodities/uae-says-it-quits-opec-opec-statement-2026-04-28/">report</a> on Tuesday, the stunning decision followed mounting frustration from the country, a key regional business hub and a close ally of the U.S., which criticized Arab states for failing to provide adequate support and protection against repeated Iranian attacks during the conflict.On Monday, Anwar Gargash, an adviser to the U.A.E. president&nbsp;Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, criticized how Arab and Gulf countries responded to the Iranian attacks during a session at the Gulf Influencers Forum.“The Gulf Cooperation Council countries supported each other logistically, but politically and militarily, I think their position has been the weakest ⁠historically. I expect this weak stance from the ​Arab League, and I am not surprised by it, but I haven't expected it from the (Gulf) ​Cooperation Council, and I am surprised by it,” Gargash reportedly said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Brent Crude Climbs Higher</h2>Brent Oil Futures for July 2026 deliveries were up around 3% at $104.65 per barrel at the time of writing.Brent crude prices have shot up more than 45% since the conflict began on Feb. 28, 2026, primarily due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil corridor that handles nearly 20% of the global crude supply.&nbsp;At the time of writing, the United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 2.9%, the ProShares Ultra Bloomberg Crude Oil (UCO) climbed 2.4% higher, while Invesco DB Oil Fund (DBO) rose around 2%.For updates and corrections, email newsroom[at]stocktwits[dot]com.

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Israeli strikes reportedly hit a Tehran refinery, damaging four oil storage sites and oil production transfer centres.</li><li>Iran’s IRGC reportedly responded by targeting a commercial tanker in the Gulf and a fuel depot in Kuwait.</li><li>France is set to deploy about a dozen naval vessels to the Mediterranean, Red Sea, and potentially the Strait of Hormuz, President Macron said.</li></ul>Iran warned that oil prices could rise to $200 per barrel if the U.S. and Israel keep targeting the country’s oil facilities, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal on Monday.Oil prices surged above $100 a barrel for the first time since June 2022, following an escalation in the Middle East conflict, in which both sides targeted critical energy infrastructure.“If you can tolerate oil prices above $200 per barrel, continue this game,” said a spokesperson of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran’s military joint command, as per the report, which cited state broadcaster IRIB.The warning came after Israeli strikes reportedly hit a Tehran refinery, damaging four oil storage sites and oil production transfer centres. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was reported to have targeted a commercial tanker in the Gulf with a drone attack as well as a fuel depot in Kuwait.Analysts have warned that the crisis will push prices even higher, with JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs flagging significant upside risks due to supply disruptions. Qatar’s energy minister said oil prices could reach $150 per barrel if Gulf exporters are forced to halt production.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Saudi Arabia Cuts Oil Production</h2>Saudi Arabia has started cutting oil production, according to a Bloomberg report on Monday. The Gulf nation is the world’s largest oil exporter, producing about 10 million barrels of crude per day and exporting roughly seven million barrels.Saudi state oil giant Aramco has diverted some shipments to Yanbu on the Red Sea through an alternative pipeline, but the route cannot fully replace exports normally sent through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping lane that transports 20% of the global oil supply.Hormuz has been effectively closed after Iran threatened vessels passing through the narrow waterway. The disruption has also forced other Gulf producers, including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Iraq, to cut output.<h2 class="st-heading-2">France To Explore Joint Mission To Escort Ships Through Hormuz</h2>Meanwhile, France is set to deploy about a dozen naval vessels, including an aircraft carrier strike group, to the Mediterranean and Red Sea, and potentially the Strait of Hormuz, to support allies amid the Middle East conflict. President Emmanuel Macron said the deployment will include eight warships, an aircraft carrier group, and two helicopter carriers.Macron also proposed a joint international maritime mission to escort commercial ships and tankers, stating that the goal is to gradually reopen the Strait of Hormuz once the most intense phase of the conflict subsides.However, Ali Larijani, Iran’s secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, said it is unlikely that any security will be achieved in the Strait of Hormuz.At the time of writing, Brent crude futures for May 2026 deliveries were up nearly 7% to $99 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) contracts expiring in May 2026 traded higher by around 7% at $92.7 per barrel.ETFs tracking oil prices gained sharply on Monday.&nbsp;The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/USO">United States Oil Fund (USO)</a> gained 6% to its highest levels since October 2018. Iran Warns Of Crude Hitting $200 A Barrel If Energy Infrastructure Is Targeted: Report

Iran warned of surging prices as oil rose past $100 for the first time since June 2022, after an escalation over the weekend saw both sides reportedly target critical energy infrastructure.

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Goldman Sachs expects the impact to be an additional $12 per barrel if the entire estimated spare pipeline capacity of four million barrels per day is fully used.</li><li>The firm raised its Q2 average price forecast for Brent crude by $10 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate crude by $9 a barrel, according to a Reuters report.</li><li>If LNG flows are fully halted for a month, Goldman Sachs expects Dutch TTF gas prices could climb toward €74 MWh.</li></ul>Global oil prices have surged in recent sessions after escalating tensions between the U.S., Israel, and Iran led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz — a critical shipping lane that carries nearly 20% of the world’s oil and LNG — with maritime traffic suspended for a fifth consecutive day.Spot Brent Crude prices have jumped over 16% over the past three sessions and are currently at their highest levels since July 2024. At the time of writing, spot prices gained 1% to $83.4 a barrel.Goldman Sachs expects oil prices to climb sharply if the Strait remains closed, estimating that crude could rise by about $15 per barrel if shipments are disrupted for a full month.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Price Impact Scenarios Based On Hormuz Closure</h2>If the entire estimated spare pipeline capacity of four million barrels per day is fully used, Goldman Sachs expects the impact to ease to around $12 per barrel. Prices could rise by about $10 if pipeline capacity is utilized and global strategic petroleum reserves are released at 2 million barrels per day for one month, the firm stated on Tuesday.A partial disruption would have a smaller effect, with a 50% closure adding roughly $4 per barrel and a 25% disruption increasing prices by about $1. The bank also estimates that traders are demanding roughly $14 more per barrel than before the conflict to account for elevated risks — a premium that reflects the expected impact of a full four-week disruption of flows through the Strait of Hormuz.According to a Reuters report on Wednesday, Goldman Sachs raised its second-quarter 2026 average price forecast for Brent crude by $10 to $76 per barrel and increased its West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude outlook by $9 to $71.The firm said the higher estimates reflect expectations that reduced oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz will sharply lower Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) inventories and curb Middle East production in March.<h2 class="st-heading-2">European Gas Prices Could Surge To €100 MWh</h2>Analysts also warned that European gas and global LNG prices could rise sharply if the conflict escalates. The biggest risk would be a disruption to the roughly 80 million tons per year of LNG — about 19% of global supply — that normally passes through the Strait of Hormuz.If LNG flows are fully halted for one month, the firm estimates Dutch TTF gas prices could climb toward €74 per megawatt-hour (MWh).
