Unlike Bitcoin, which primarily functions as digital currency, Ethereum operates as a programmable global computer where developers can create any type of decentralized service. Its transition to Proof of Stake in September 2022 reduced energy consumption by over 99%, addressing environmental concerns while strengthening network security.  The network operates through thousands of independent validator nodes that process transactions and execute smart contracts on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

Ethereum is currently the subject of intense debate among market participants as the asset tests critical support levels amid shifting institutional interest and broader geopolitical tensions. Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Shares of Telomir Pharmaceuticals surged nearly 40% in premarket trading on Thursday after the company announced promising new lab results showing that its experimental compound, Telomir-1, can selectively destroy triple-negative breast cancer cells.In laboratory studies using human triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells, researchers observed that as Telomir-1 concentrations increased, more cancer cells stopped growing and eventually died. When iron was reintroduced into the system, the cells regained their ability to survive, pointing to a finding that confirmed Telomir-1’s effects are tied to iron regulation and cellular energy balance.The discovery is significant as TNBC cells are highly dependent on iron to fuel their rapid growth and spread. By cutting off that iron-driven metabolism, Telomir-1 appears to exploit a key vulnerability in these tumors, while normal cells, which process iron differently, remain largely unaffected.Telomir-1 has previously&nbsp;demonstrated the ability to reset abnormal DNA methylation patterns, which are chemical modifications that can alter gene function in preclinical models of cancer and age-related diseases.&nbsp;In this latest study, researchers believe its impact on energy and iron metabolism may stem from its influence on certain enzymes, known as Jumonji domain histone demethylases, which are known to drive tumor aggressiveness and treatment resistance.The study suggests that Telomir-1 may help restore the body’s natural balance, reactivating the normal genetic controls that cancer cells&nbsp;typically shut down to maintain growth.Telomir said it will now seek to use the drug in other hard-to-treat cancers, such as pancreatic and blood cancers, based on these results. The company said that its experimental drug, Telomir-1, selectively kills aggressive triple-negative breast cancer cells by disrupting their iron-based energy systems.

Shares of Telomir Pharmaceuticals surged during after-hours trading Thursday following the announcement of early laboratory data from research conducted on progeria-affected cells from a young patient.The stock closed at $1.21 on Thursday, then surged 138.8% after hours to $2.89 following the preclinical data.The rare disease, Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS), emerges from one gene mutation which triggers the accumulation of progerin within the body. The disease affects fewer than 30 children in the U.S.Most start showing symptoms like growth delays and heart problems by age two, and many don’t live past their early teens.&nbsp;The only approved drug, Zokinvy, can add a few years to their lives but doesn’t stop the damage or undo what’s already happened.In the new study, conducted by Smart Assays using cells provided by the Progeria Research Foundation, Telomir-1 improved cell survival in a dose-dependent manner, even under stress conditions.&nbsp;It also reduced levels of reactive oxygen species, a marker of oxidative damage, and corrected iron-induced calcium overload linked to mitochondrial dysfunction.The company stated that these results, observed in actual patient-derived cells, demonstrate that Telomir-1 not only protects cells but also restores critical biological functions.&nbsp;Telomir-1 is designed to regulate metal ions, reduce oxidative stress, restore mitochondrial health, extend telomeres, reverse muscle loss, and reset age-related DNA methylation patterns.CEO Erez Aminov said that the findings support broader potential beyond progeria, including neurodegeneration and metabolic disorders.The results also validated prior preclinical work in animal models, where Telomir-1 extended lifespan and reversed age phenotypes in zebrafish and C. elegans models of Werner syndrome, an adult form of progeria.&nbsp;Telomir is completing IND-enabling studies and is due to meet with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to discuss potential regulatory pathways, including orphan drug designation.On Stocktwits, retail sentiment was ‘extremely bullish’ amid ‘extremely high’ message volume.The Telomir stream on Stocktwits saw a nearly 30% increase in watcher count over the past 24 hours, leading up to late Thursday, with the 24-hour message volume surging up by 8,600%.One user predicted a sharp move, saying Telomir could hit $8–$10 in post-market trading before “a crazy rocket” at the open toward $20 or higher.&nbsp;<stembedurl>https://stocktwits.com/time4themoon/message/621444979</stembedurl>Another user noted the stock’s momentum late in the session, and added that it was “seeing a nice bid going into the extended session close” with expectations to be “jamming in premarket.”<stembedurl>https://stocktwits.com/phijammaslamma/message/621430208</stembedurl><a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/TELO">Telomir’s stock</a> has declined 70.3% so far in 2025.For updates and corrections, email newsroom[at]stocktwits[dot]com.
