NYSE-listed shares of Chinese EV maker Nio (NIO) slumped 7% in the pre-market session on Thursday following reports of Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, GIC Private, filing a report against it over alleged irregularities in its revenue recognition practices.The latest slump in the stock price comes after the shares touched a 1.5-year high in late September. According to Stocktwits data, retail chatter around <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/NIO">Nio</a> jumped 39% over the past 24 hours. At the same time, retail sentiment around the stock remains in the ‘bearish’ territory. Nio’s Hong Kong-listed shares, meanwhile, traded 9% lower at the time of writing.The lawsuit, filed in August, centers on Nio’s relationship with its battery asset operator Mirattery, established with partners including CATL, Guotai Junan, and Hubei Science Technology Investment. GIC alleged Nio misled investors by inflating revenue through Mirattery, resulting in investment losses.The lawsuit has reportedly been stayed temporarily in a U.S. court pending the outcome of an earlier class action. Until that case is resolved, Nio is not required to respond, Stocktwits <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/nio-shares-slip-in-hong-kong-after-singapore-s-gic-sues-over-revenue-practices/ch6YoDKR3V9">reported</a> earlier today, citing CnEVPost. The fund’s lawsuit is said to have been triggered by a June 2022 short-seller report from Grizzly Research, which accused Nio of using Mirattery to exaggerate revenues and profit margins.GIC’s allegations echo Grizzly’s claims, asserting that Nio improperly recognized full battery sales revenue upfront when selling batteries to Mirattery under its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. The fund argues that using installment-based revenue recognition would have resulted in materially lower performance figures and prevented Nio’s 2021 valuation spike. Nio, however, conducted an internal review following the report and said the allegations were unfounded.The company is rapidly ramping up EV deliveries. In the third quarter, it delivered 87,071 vehicles, representing a growth of 40.8% year-on-year. The firm, however, is yet to turn a profit. It aims to address issues arising from the R1 vehicle redesign last year, which relocated the rear manual releases to a difficult-to-access location, potentially slowing occupants’ attempts to exit the vehicle if the electrical system loses power, sources told Bloomberg.In the company’s R2 SUV, slated for release in the first half of 2026, the mechanism for opening the rear doors and positioning of the manual release will be similar to the front doors, the report said.It is unclear whether the redesign will apply solely to the upcoming R2 SUV or also to the company’s R1 vehicles, the report added.Rivian shares traded marginally higher at the time of writing. Canadian auto supplier Magna International announced that XPeng has selected it to assemble two of its new models for the European market, with serial production of the vehicles set to commence in the third quarter of 2025.

NIO Inc. (NIO) on Wednesday announced the pricing of its $1 billion equity offering relating to a total of 181.8 million Class A ordinary shares of the company. NYSE-listed shares of the company tumbled over 10% at the time of writing.The company <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://ir.nio.com/news-releases/news-release-details/nio-inc-announces-pricing-us1-billion-equity-offering">stated</a> that it would comprise an offering of the company’s American depositary shares (ADSs) and an offering of its Class A ordinary shares.The ADSs will be offered at a public offering price of $5.57 per ADS, with the offering expected to close on or about September 11. This represents an 11% discount to the stock’s closing price on Tuesday.The Class A ordinary shares, meanwhile, are being offered at an offering price of HK$43.36 per share. The higher delivery expectations are spurred by the company’s new vehicle models, including the Onvo L90 and the new Nio ES8. CEO William Li noted in a post-earnings call that with the new vehicles, the company sees a market demand that is higher than what it expected before launch. XPeng To Launch Mona Brand Globally Next Year: Report

According to a CNBC report, the company is now open to acquiring other electric carmakers. 

Chinese EV maker Nio (NIO) got multiple price target hikes on Wednesday after it reported a narrower second-quarter (Q2) loss.Mizuho raised its price target on Nio to $6 from $3.50 and kept a ‘Neutral’ rating on the shares following the June quarter report. The firm expects stronger demand for electric vehicles but notes that Nio's delivery targets remain challenging. Mizuho views the stock as fairly valued at its current levels, according to TheFly.Bank of America, meanwhile, raised the firm's price target on Nio to $7.10 from $5 and kept a ‘Neutral’ rating on the shares.
