Guwahati: UCO Bank held a Resource, MSME, and Agriculture Carnival in Kohima city on Wednesday, bringing together branch managers, existing customers, and prospective borrowers for a wide-ranging outreach event focused on financial inclusion and lending support across Nagaland. The event was part of UCO Bank's nationwide carnival drive being conducted during the fourth quarter of the financial year 2025-26. Also Read: UCO Bank organizes MSME, Retail and Agriculture Carnival Camp Zonal Manager Narendra Pratap Singh formally inaugurated the programme with a welcome address, reaffirming the bank's commitment to serving customers across the Jorhat Zone and contributing to the socio-economic development of Nagaland. He shared a headline figure from the ongoing campaign — the Jorhat Zone has sanctioned loans amounting to more than Rs 743 crore to 10,545 beneficiaries so far during the current quarter alone. The long-awaited inventory of valuables stored in the Ratna Bhandar of Puri Srimandir will begin on Wednesday under stringent security arrangements. According to officials, an auspicious time between 12:09 PM and 1:45 PM has been fixed for the entry of the inventory team into the Ratna Bhandar. The counting and verification process of the precious ornaments and valuables will be carried out within this time window under a multi-layered security cover. The exercise will include videography, photography, and 3D mapping to ensure proper documentation of the valuables. Initially, the movable items in the treasure trove of the 12th century shrine will be taken up for counting and verification. The process will be cross-checked with the detailed inventory list prepared during the last assessment conducted in 1978. As per the standard procedure, gold ornaments will be wrapped in yellow velvet cloth and placed in tin boxes before being secured in chests. Silver ornaments will be wrapped in white or silver-coloured cloth, while other valuables will be covered in red velvet fabric for preservation.

CBI court sentences 4, including ex-UCO Bank officials, to 5 years

Ahmedabad, March 24 : A special CBI court in Ahmedabad has convicted and sentenced four accused, including two former officials of UCO Bank, to five years of Rigorous Imprisonment along with fines in two separate bank fraud cases, officials said on Tuesday. The court on March 23 awarded the sentence to the then Senior Manager Medam Bhagavathi Prasad, then Assistant Manager Bhaskar Rameshchandra Soni, and private individuals involved in the cases. In the first case, the court sentenced Medam Bhagavathi Prasad, Bhaskar Rameshchandra Soni, and Jayendrasinh Dahyaji Makwana, proprietor of M/s Heaven Five Enterprise, to five years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a total fine of Rs 1.33 crore. The case was registered by the CBI on April 27, 2016, against the accused and others. It was alleged that Prasad, while serving as Branch Manager of UCO Bank’s Chiloda branch in Gandhinagar, fraudulently sanctioned and disbursed cash credit limits and term loans amounting to Rs 6.43 crore on the basis of forged documents to various borrowers.
