Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that has evolved from Bitcoin after its own popularity in the industry, this alternative, or ‘altcoin’ has emerged to allow investors to diversify their digital currency package, according to Investopedia. Litecoin is one of the most prominent altcoins and was created by former Google employee and Director of Engineering at Coinbase, Charlie Lee. Litecoin was the first to alter Bitcoin and the most significant difference is that it takes 2.5 minutes for Litecoin to generate a block, or transaction, in comparison to Bitcoin's 10 minutes.  ‘While this matters little to traders, miners who use hardware to run Bitcoin's network cannot switch over to Litecoin. This keeps bigger mining conglomerates away from Litecoin because they cannot easily optimize their profits by swapping to another coin, contributing to a more decentralized experience. Litecoin also has bigger blocks, and more coins in circulation, making it more affordable and swift when transacting,’ Investopedia explained.  As explained above, Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed. However, Litecoin’s blocks would be larger, but with more ‘orphaned blocks'. The faster block time of litecoin reduces the risk of double spending attacks - this is theoretical in the case of both networks having the same hashing power.  Litecoin Technical Details: The transaction confirmation time taken for Litecoin is about 2.5 minutes on average (as compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes). The Litecoin network is scheduled to cap at 84 million currency units.   Litecoin has inspired many other popular alternative currencies (eg. Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market.

Shares of U.S. Cellular (<a class="mention" data-mention="$USM" data-symbol-id="USM" href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/USM" target="_blank">$USM</a>) and Telephone and Data Systems (<a class="mention" data-mention="$TDS" data-symbol-id="TDS" href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/TDS" target="_blank">$TDS</a>) surged Thursday following an upbeat note from Raymond James, which upgraded both stocks to ‘Outperform’ from ‘Market Perform.’&nbsp;The firm set price targets of $86 for U.S. Cellular, implying a 32% upside, and $51 for TDS, signaling a potential 56% upside based on Wednesday’s closing prices.Raymond James analyst Ric Prentiss pointed to the outcome of the 2024 U.S. Presidential election, speculating that a Trump victory could create a more favorable regulatory environment.&nbsp;This, he believes, could clear the path for T-Mobile’s (<a class="mention" data-mention="$TMUS" data-symbol-id="TMUS" href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/TMUS" target="_blank">$TMUS</a>) $4.4 billion acquisition of U.S. Cellular to proceed. The deal is expected to close mid-2024.“We see significant upside in shares of both stocks given the ongoing strategic review and announced asset sales at USM, and now feel the regulatory path to approval is cleaner and timeline should be better,” he wrote in a Thursday note.&nbsp;Prentiss also noted that U.S. Cellular, through ongoing strategic reviews and asset sales, may be on track to transition into a standalone tower company, which could lead to a much higher multiple in the future.&nbsp;In a separate announcement, U.S. Cellular said on Thursday it agreed with AT&amp;T (<a class="mention" data-mention="$T" data-symbol-id="T" href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/T" target="_blank">$T</a>) to sell a portion of its retained spectrum licenses for $1.018 billion, part of a strategy to opportunistically monetize spectrum not included in its proposed sale to T-Mobile (TMUS).&nbsp;It follows a previous deal, announced last month, to sell a portion of these licenses to Verizon (<a class="mention" data-mention="$VZ" data-symbol-id="VZ" href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/VZ" target="_blank">$VZ</a>) and two other mobile network operators.Both stocks have seen impressive gains in 2024, with U.S. Cellular up nearly 57% year-to-date and TDS rising more than 77%. United States Cellular Corporation (USM) <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/uscellular-announces-sale-of-select-spectrum-assets-for-1-0-billion-302279983.html">said</a> on Friday it has entered into an agreement with Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) to sell a portion of the firm’s retained spectrum licenses for total consideration of $1 billion.At the same time, US Cellular has also entered into agreements with two other mobile network operators for the sale of other selected spectrum licenses. The company said the transactions are part of its objective to monetize the spectrum that was not included in the proposed sale to T-Mobile.CEO Laurent C. Therivel said the firm is continuing the process to opportunistically monetize the remaining spectrum assets not included in Friday’s announcement. Shares of USM rose over 10% on Friday morning after the announcement.As per the agreement, Verizon will sell 663 million MHz POPs of its cellular (850 MHz) spectrum licenses as well as 11 million MHz POPs of its AWS and 19 million MHz POPs of its PCS licenses for a total of $1 billion.
