The company chose to take a bolder approach to streamline operations by effecting a tripartite split: the parent company was renamed GE Aerospace, GE Vernova (focused on energy), and GE Healthcare.&nbsp;&nbsp;While the plan was mooted and communicated to the investors in November 2021, GE Healthcare was spun off in 2023, followed by the separation of GE Vernova, leaving parent GE as a pure-play aerospace company.&nbsp;Far from a risky experiment, GE’s restructuring is emerging as one of Wall Street’s most effective value unlocks — with spin-off unit Vernova’s (GEV) AI-driven breakout validating the bet.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">GEV’s Businesses</h2>The company provides power generation products, such as gas turbines, to end markets including pulp &amp; paper mills, mines, data centers, oil &amp; gas, and hospitals. By energy sources, power accounted for roughly half of the company’s revenues in the September quarter, with wind and electrification contributing approximately 25% each.<h2 class="st-heading-2">GEV Lands In Data Center Sweetspot</h2>When the company released its third-quarter results in late October, CEP Scott Strazik sounded positive about its order flow and backlogs:<blockquote>“Our growth trajectory is accelerating and the demand environment for our equipment and services remains strong with $16 billion in backlog growth year-to-date. Our Gas Power equipment backlog and slot reservation agreements increased from 55 to 62 gigawatts sequentially, and our Electrification equipment backlog increased $6.5 billion year-to-date, to approximately $26 billion.”</blockquote>The 55% order growth was exemplary by any standards. At the start of December, the company announced a $400 million funding grant to the Tennessee Valley Authority to continue accelerating the deployment of GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR). Strazik said the BWRX-300 is the only commercial SMR technology currently being built in the Western world.In its 2025 Investor Update, the company reaffirmed its 2025 revenue and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margin guidance. The company lifted its 2028 revenue outlook to low-double-digit organic growth from the high-single-digit growth it had forecast earlier.It lifted its 2025 free cash flow guidance to $3.5 billion to $4 billion, which is expected to rise to $4 billion to $4.5 billion in 2026 and more than $22 billion by 2028.Separately, GEV doubled its quarterly dividend to $0.50 per share and increased its buyback authorization to $10 billion.GEV is also set to benefit from the rare-earth scramble, as China restricts the supply of these key materials used in multiple end products. Strazik reportedly&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/ge-vernova-working-with-us-government-boost-stocks-rare-earth-yttrium-2025-12-10/">said</a> at the Investor event that the company is working with the government to increase yttrium stockpiles, a rare-earth element.&nbsp;Following the investor update, GEV received a few upgrades and a slew of price-target hikes, according to summaries of notes from the Fly.&nbsp;According to Koyfin, the average price target for GEV is $692.14, suggesting a 11% upside potential from current levels. Wall Street firms RBC Capital Markets and Oppenheimer upgraded the stock, assigning it bullish-equivalent ratings. According to a Business Insider report citing an internal memo, the move comes as Meta rethinks its VR strategy to balance costs, device performance, and software development.

It is on track to launch its next-gen Rubin architecture in 2026.When China locks horns with the U.S. in a closely fought AI race, it is less likely that the customers will remain loyal to Nvidia and remain content with the second-best available to them. It is worth noting that the China-specific H2O chip that Nvidia began selling in the country in late 2023, to circumvent the previous Biden administration’s ban, did little to accelerate Nvidia’s sagging sales.According to a report from the Institute for Progress (IFP), Hopper also uses TSMC’s 4-nanometer processor node technology, like the Blackwell chips. “As of December 2025, 18 of the 20 most powerful publicly documented GPU clusters in the world primarily used Hopper chips, including all of the top 7,” it said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">2. China’s Rebuff</h2>Not long after Trump flaunted his magnanimity by allowing H200 exports to China, the Asian nation reportedly reiterated what it has been saying for some time now. According to a Financial Times report, citing sources, Beijing is mulling ways to allow&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/china-to-reportedly-restrict-nvidia-h200-chip-use/cLIruVQREZO">limited access</a> to the H1200 chips. Local media reports have, on and off, suggested that China has asked state enterprises and government establishments to avoid Nvidia chips, citing security concerns. This is despite Trump stating in his post that Xi had responded positively to the development.<h2 class="st-heading-2">3. Local Competition Catching Up</h2>Anticipating a supply risk, China has been doling out incentives and funding to homegrown chipmakers to&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/china-probably-won-t-need-nvidia-for-long-beijing-s-homegrown-ai-chip-empire-is-rising-stealthily/cLIrvzgREZK">spur domestic innovation.</a> Cambricon, a Chinese AI startup, is widely considered a Nvidia killer in the domestic market.&nbsp;Moore Threads, another startup founded by former Nvidia executive Zhang Jianzhong and a manufacturer of AI chips for training, had a rip-roaring public debut last week. Other big tech players, such as Alibaba and Baidu, also have in-house AI chips that they use to train their own models and supply to other customers.IFP, however, has shrugged off the China competition in its report. The think tank stated that Huawei, which now has the most advanced AI chip in China, can’t produce one of comparable calibre to the H200 at least until the fourth quarter of 2027. The report also downplayed China’s scaling ability, stating that the country can achieve only 1%-4% of U.S. production in 2025, and 1-2% in 2026.More importantly, Nvidia now has to make a 25% cut to the government out of its future AI chip sales to China. For a company that makes about $100 billion in trailing 12-month profits and strong margins, the revenue sharing with the government could not matter much.
