JPMorgan Sees ‘Value Oriented Opportunity’ In Wendy’s Stock Despite Lowered 2025 Outlook — Retail Turns Cautious

Shares of the popular burger chain trade around a five-year low.

Mattel (MAT) on Monday withdrew its annual forecast after reporting an upbeat quarter and said that U.S. trade tariffs would bump costs by hundreds of millions of dollars this year.The toy maker, known for Barbie dolls and Hot Wheels cars, is the latest casualty of the U.S. trade policy, which includes particularly high tariffs on key manufacturing partner China.Although President Donald Trump has paused some tariffs and announced exemptions on some items like gadgets and semiconductors, the toy industry has not been lucky."Given the volatile macroeconomic environment and evolving U.S. tariff landscape, it is difficult to predict consumer spending and Mattel's U.S. sales in the remainder of the year and holiday season," Mattel said.The company added that it saw $270 million in incremental costs from tariffs this year. Earlier, Mattel had guided for an up to 3% rise in sales in 2025, but it has now pulled back that target.Mattel manufactures less than 40% of its products in China, according to Bloomberg News.The company is now making an effort to diversify its supply chain. CEO Ynon Kreiz said on the analyst call that Mattel expected to buy less than 15% of its toys sold in the U.S. from China by 2026, and less than 10% by 2027.The company announced plans to scale back promotions to reduce expenses and raised its annual cost-savings goal from $60 million to $80 million.The dire outlook took some sheen off a strong quarterly report. Mattel Pulls Annual Forecast, Projects $270M Hit From Tariffs This Year: Retail Upbeat After Strong Q1 Print

Shares of Mattel Inc. ($MAT)surged on Tuesday, rising 10.39% in after-hours trading, after the toy and entertainment company reported better-than-expected fourth quarter earnings, but retail sentiment seemed cautious.For the latest quarter, its earnings per share stood at $0.35, beating consensus estimates of about $0.20. Its revenues came in at $1.65 billion, above consensus estimates of $1.63 billion, quoted by Wall Street analysts. Its net sales rose 3% in constant currency terms, the company said.For 2025, the company expects adjusted EPS to range between $1.66 and $1.72. That compares to $1.58 consensus estimates, according to Fly.com. Its net sales are expected to see growth between 2% and 3%.“2024 was a year of strong operational excellence for Mattel with top-line growth in the fourth quarter. The bottom line performance exceeded the $0.41 per share consensus estimate.Revenue climbed about 9% year-over-year (YoY) to $831.07 million versus the $814.9 million consensus estimate. Product revenue, accounting for 55% of the total revenue, edged up 0.32% to $454.74 million, and subscription revenue improved about 22% to $376.34 million.Among operational metrics, subscription annual recurring revenue rose 22% to $1.6 billion, and remaining performance obligations were up 16% to $2.4 billion.&nbsp;Non-GAAP operating margin was 20.1%.Pure Storage ended the quarter with cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities of $1.6 billion.&nbsp;Commenting on the results, CEO Kevan Krysler said, “Our third quarter results exceeded our expectations on revenue and operating income, demonstrating the sustaining strength of our business models.”“We remain focused on driving both near-term results and long-term value creation through disciplined investments and innovation that position Pure as the leader in transforming the data storage landscape.”During the quarter, the company said it will be a certified storage solution for Nvidia DGX SuperPOD by the end of 2024, accelerating enterprise artificial intelligence adoption.&nbsp;Pure Storage said it expects fourth-quarter revenue of $867 million, and it upped its full-year revenue guidance from $3.1 billion to&nbsp; $3.15 billion. This compares to the consensus of $855.18 million and $3.13 billion, respectively.The collaboration announced with Kioxia, a dominant player in flash memory and solid-state devices, envisages combining Pure Storage’s advanced data storage platform with the former’s QLC flash memory.
