Bitcoin is the world's first decentralized cryptocurrency, created in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. It enables peer-to-peer electronic cash transactions without intermediaries like banks or governments, operating on a blockchain secured by Proof of Work mining and the SHA-256 cryptographic algorithm.   With a fixed supply cap of 21 million coins and programmatic halvings every four years that reduce miner rewards, Bitcoin is designed as a deflationary digital asset often called "digital gold." Its value stems from solving the double-spending problem without trusted intermediaries, creating the first truly scarce digital asset with censorship resistance and permissionless access that no government, corporation, or individual can control.  Bitcoin operates as a decentralized peer-to-peer network where transactions are recorded on a public ledger called the blockchain, distributed across thousands of computers globally. Transactions are grouped into blocks added approximately every 10 minutes through mining, where specialized computers compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles.   Bitcoin has achieved mainstream adoption through multiple vectors. The January 2024 SEC approval of 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs opened Bitcoin investment to traditional finance participants, and corporations like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) are using Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset to protect against currency debasement, offering MSTR holders amplified exposure to Bitcoin.   The Bitcoin ecosystem continues to evolve with innovations like Ordinals, which emerged in January 2023 to enable NFT-like functionality directly on Bitcoin, and BRC-20 tokens, an experimental standard for creating fungible tokens using Ordinal inscriptions. BTCFi (Bitcoin Finance) represents emerging financial applications extending beyond Bitcoin's traditional role, with protocols like Babylon allowing Bitcoin holders to stake BTC to secure Proof of Stake chains.

Compared with other cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin had a fast initial coin production schedule: 100 billion coins were in circulation by mid-2015, with an additional 5.256 billion coins every year thereafter. As of 30 June 2015, the 100 billionth Dogecoin had been mined.   Dogecoin was created by Billy Markus from Portland, Oregon and  Jackson Palmer from Sydney, Australia. Both wanted to create a fun cryptocurrency that will appeal beyond the core Bitcoin audience. Dogecoin is primarily used as a tipping system on Reddit and Twitter where users tip each other for creating or sharing good content. The community is very active in organising fundraising activities for deserving causes.  The developers of Dogecoin haven’t made any major changes to the coin since 2015. This means that Dogecoin could get left behind and is why Shibas are leaving Dogecoin to join more advanced platforms like Ethereum. One of Dogecoin strengths is its relaxed and fun-loving community. However, this is also a weakness because other currencies are way more professional.  To purchase Dogecoin, it involves downloading a crypto wallet, setting up a crypto exchange account and then trading away for your desired crypto currency. In other words, it is a decentralized blockchain platform that enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts and applications without central authority control. Unlike Bitcoin, which primarily functions as digital currency, Ethereum operates as a programmable global computer where developers can create any type of decentralized service.   The platform hosts over $14 billion in DeFi applications with hundreds of thousands of active users across financial protocols, NFT marketplaces, and gaming platforms. Its transition to Proof of Stake in September 2022 reduced energy consumption by over 99%, addressing environmental concerns while strengthening network security.  The network operates through thousands of independent validator nodes that process transactions and execute smart contracts on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

The post-results reaction — or more precisely, the post-earnings-call reversal — underscores how jittery the market has become around artificial intelligence (AI) trades.The stock initially climbed nearly 3% in after-hours trading, but the gains vanished once the earnings call began. By overnight trading, Broadcom shares were down more than 4%, according to Yahoo Finance.Was it CEO Hock Tan’s guarded commentary that weighed on the stock, or are investors signaling that Broadcom has already priced in too much, too quickly? In any case, there’s no doubt that Broadcom delivered a blockbuster, and the numbers leave little room for debate.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Long Streak Of ‘Standout’ Growth&nbsp;</h2>Since the second quarter of calendar 2023, revenue has grown year over year in every quarter, although the growth rate slowed from more than 50% in the third quarter of last year. More importantly, the company guided the AI chip revenue to double to $8.2 billion in the current quarter.Broadcom has also been a consistent profit earner.&nbsp;Its second-quarter 2024 results were an outlier; a one-time non-cash tax provision of $4.5 billion related to an intra-group transfer of intellectual property rights to the U.S. as part of a supply-chain realignment dragged the unadjusted bottom-line result into the red.<img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/AVG_Os_Profit_Engine_Runs_Hot_png_597bb8266a.webp" alt="AVGOs_Profit_Engine_Runs_Hot.png">Source: Fiscal.ai<h2 class="st-heading-2">Margin - Source of Worry?</h2>On the earnings call, CFO Kristine Spears said gross margin contracted 50 basis points (bps) sequentially, with the chip product mix blamed for the predicament, according to a transcript made available by Koyfin. In Q4, Broadcom’s chip solutions business, which made up about 62% of the total revenue, carried a gross margin of 68%, while the infrastructure software segment had a higher 93% margin.Broadcom now models a 100 bps sequential contraction in the current quarter. The company also forecast a percentage point sequential decline in its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA).&nbsp;<img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/AVG_Os_Margin_Profile_png_e0e57edb68.webp" alt="AVGOs_Margin_Profile.png">Source:&nbsp;Fiscal.ai<h2 class="st-heading-2">Backlog Underwhelms?</h2>A $73 billion order that Tan flaunted may sound measly compared to the $523.3 billion in backlog&nbsp;plus deferred revenue&nbsp;that&nbsp;Oracle guided. On the earnings call, Tan said the number pertains to what will be delivered over the next 18 months.When an analyst asked if the estimate was a base-case scenario, Tan replied in the affirmative.<blockquote>“So, taking that we expect revenue -- a minimum revenue one way to look at it of $73 billion over the next 6 quarters, but we do expect much more as more orders come in for shipments within the next 6 quarters.”</blockquote>The executive also clarified that more than 70% pertains to XPUs&nbsp; — the highly customized application-specific eXtreme processing units used for AI applications.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Tan Tight-Lipped On 2026 Specifics</h2>The Broadcom CEO gave&nbsp;only&nbsp;a qualitative perspective on what 2026 would look like.<blockquote>“Directionally, we expect AI revenue to continue to accelerate and drive most of our growth. And non-AI semiconductor revenue to be stable. Infrastructure software revenue will continue to be driven by VMware growth at low double digits.”</blockquote>He also said it’s hard to predict 2026 performance precisely, calling “Now moving is a moving number as we move in time.”“So I'd rather not give you guys any guidance, and that's why we don't give you guidance.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">Is Valuation Deterrent?</h2>Broadcom stock has gained more than 76% this year, outperforming the broader market, the tech sector and the semiconductor industry.<img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/AVGO_YTD_stock_return_png_b95655ca75.webp" alt="AVGO YTD stock return.png">Source: KoyfinThe forward price-earnings (P/E) multiple, a key valuation metric, is at 48.2, implying that the stock is a pricier investment compared to the S&amp;P 500’s 22.5, the IT industry’s 28.2 and the semiconductor industry’s 30.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Retail, Analyst Relish AVGO’s Q4</h2>The adverse stock reaction did little&nbsp;to&nbsp;dissuade retail traders,&nbsp;with Stocktwits sentiment soaring after the Q4 report. On Stocktwits, the sentiment meter pointed to an ‘extremely bullish’ stance as of early Friday, an improvement from the ‘bullish’ mood seen the day before. The mood toward the stock has remained broadly buoyant throughout the past year.<img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Screenshot_2025_12_11_at_10_20_25_PM_png_4847782cdc.webp" alt="Screenshot 2025-12-11 at 10.20.25 PM.png">Retail chatter on the AVGO stream also grew louder to ‘extremely high’ levels. A bullish watcher’s comments&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/kcphaeton/message/638956111">summarized</a> retail’s mood — ‘A stock you own; You do not trade it.” They were leaning bullish, sensing the setup for a strong, durable move higher.“Always a bull,” another proudly&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/AVGOmysugardaddy/message/638956286">proclaimed,</a> who apparently wants to hold the stock. They lauded the company for an “impressive” earnings report and felt Broadcom’s Hock did not care about “external noises.”Following the Q4 print, Baird’s Tristan Gerra hiked his price target on Broadcom to $420 from $300 — a massive increase — while reiterating an ‘Overweight’ rating. Gerra pointed to strong deal momentum, highlighting the additional $11 billion order, entirely from Anthropic, the company’s fourth customer, on top of the $10 billion announced in the prior quarter.He also flagged that Broadcom has now secured a fifth customer for its XPUs. Gerra added that OpenAI-related revenue should flow through 2027–2029, assuming a low-$20 billion revenue per gigawatt range.According to Koyfin, 94% of the analysts covering the stock (44 of 47) rate the stock as a ‘Buy’ or a ‘Strong Buy.’ Three chose to remain on the sidelines. While the broader market’s turnaround has been healthy for the stock, the main thrust came from a report that said Alphabet was in discussions with Meta and other companies to sell its AI chips, called Tensor Processing Units (TPUs).So, how Does That Benefit Broadcom?Broadcom is Google's design partner for TPUs and also supplies front-end networking switches. While Google designs the tensor cores, Broadcom helps integrate memory interfaces, high-speed I/O, power management, and packaging technology with the cores.When reports of Google's TPU plans began circulating,&nbsp;social media chatter also highlighted Meta’s long-standing connection with Broadcom CEO Hock Tan. Broadcom CEO Tan has been serving on Meta's board since 2006 and may have had a say in the Mark Zuckerberg-led company's consideration of Google.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Analysts Weigh In</h2>Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore said in a note released earlier this week that Broadcom produced about 1.8 million TPUs for Google in 2025, the majority of which were used internally. He expects output to climb to roughly 3 million by 2027.Moore believes that the expanding use of TPU is a boost for Broadcom. “But when it comes to broader adoption by other customers, the implications are less clear.”Also this week, Goldman Sachs analyst James Schneider raised his price target for Broadcom to $435 from $380 and maintained a Buy rating, according to the summary of the note on the Fly.
