Iran launched attacks targeting U.S. warships in the region, according to U.S. officials, prompting retaliatory American strikes on Iranian military positions. The escalation cast fresh doubt over ongoing peace negotiations between the two countries.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Bitcoin, Ethereum Lose Key Technical Levels</h2>The overall cryptocurrency market was down 1% on the day, keeping above $2.7 trillion. Bitcoin Price Drops Below $80K Support After US-Iran ‘Love Tap’ Pushes Brent Crude Over $100

Nearly $300 million in crypto positions were liquidated over the past 24 hours, with long traders accounting for most losses.

Meanwhile, WTI crude futures expiring in June were up about 0.15%, trading at $94.95 a barrel.The “NACHO” buzzword is catching on again after the U.S. and Iran exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, stoking concerns about the ongoing blockade in the important energy corridor that has disrupted global supply and led to wild fluctuations in oil prices since the start of the war.“It’s essentially the market losing hope in the chance of a quick fix,” eToro market analyst Zavier Wong reportedly told CNBC. “NACHO is an acknowledgment that higher oil isn’t a temporary shock to trade around, it’s the current market environment.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">Oil Supply Tightens</h2>Shell CEO Wael Sawan has said the oil market is facing a shortage of nearly 1 billion barrels amid the conflict.“The hard facts are we are, we have dug ourselves a hole of close to 1 billion barrels of crude shortage at the moment, either because of locked-in barrels or unproduced barrels, and of course, that hole is deepening every single day. The journey back will be a long one. And you’re beginning to see that on the overall refining complex,” he said in the latest earnings call with investors.Earlier, the International Energy Agency also <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.iea.org/reports/oil-market-report-march-2026">noted</a> that the oil market is facing its biggest supply disruption in history.The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.dallasfed.org/~/media/documents/research/papers/2026/wp2609.pdf">suggested</a> that a prolonged closure of the Strait could send crude oil prices above $167 in late 2026, and potentially to $200 per barrel.The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/uso">United States Oil Fund</a> (USO), which tracks the price of WTI crude oil, has rallied more than 64% since the war started. The U.S. military said that it had intercepted "unprovoked" Iranian attacks on three American ships in the critical waterway, while Iran has said that the U.S. violated ceasefire agreements first.“A normal Country would have allowed these Destroyers to pass, but Iran is not a normal Country. The company has guided to 15% growth in production in 2026, driven by strong output from key offshore assets in Ghana and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as its LNG-linked projects in Mauritania and Senegal.The energy company’s capital expenditures in 2025 came in below budget, and it intends to keep capex levels low in 2026, while targeting a 20% reduction in operating costs and 10% reduction in net debt.In February, the company sold its about 40% stake in Equatorial Guinea’s Ceiba and Okume assets to Panoro Energy for $180 million, plus up to $39.5 million in contingent payments, to offload non-core assets, boost liquidity, and support debt reduction.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Q1 Earnings Expectation For Kosmos</h2>The company is slated to report its Q1 results on Tuesday before the market opens. Wall Street analysts expect Kosmos to post revenue of $406.96 million, compared with $290.43 million in the comparable period last year.Kosmos is also expected to post earnings per share of $0.02, compared to a loss of $0.23 per share in the first quarter of 2025.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Wall Street Consensus On KOS</h2>Last week, Pareto initiated coverage of Kosmos with a ‘Buy’ rating and a $3.60 price target, representing an upside potential of about 10% from its last close.However, earlier in the month, Goldman Sachs downgraded the stock to ‘Sell’ from ‘Neutral’ with an unchanged price target of $2.25. The firm said the downgrade follows KOS stock's rally in 2026 and that it now sees less upside in its shares relative to the company's larger-cap peers. Goldman also said that the company's leverage remains elevated, which reduces its capacity to return capital to shareholders.KOS stock has gained more than 90% in the last year.
