The high price is putting pressure on wireless carriers to offer attractive promotions as they compete to win customers upgrading to Apple’s latest devices. 
T-Mobile, AT&amp;T and Verizon have begun rolling out initial iPhone promotions aimed at reducing the upfront cost through trade-in offers, installment plans and other incentives. Analysts, however, say the carriers have yet to enter a major price war, suggesting promotions could become more aggressive if competition intensifies. 
Apple’s new foldable is expected to be a major test of consumer demand for premium smartphones, while the carriers’ willingness to subsidize the device could play an important role in determining adoption. Shares of Apple gained 3.56% in Thursday trading.
