Some $PINteresting 2023 Predictions

It’s that time of year again when everyone shares their predictions for the year ahead. And it’s not just people. Companies are getting in on the action.

Today we’re looking at Pinterest’s predictions for 2023, which offers insights into the future trends its users are helping form. 📝

Within the report was a section related to Financial Services.

Here was the conclusion: “Gen X and Millennials will seek new ways to gamify their finances, searching for budget challenges and savings games. Who said finances can’t be fun?”

Driving that conclusion was an uptick in the following search terms:

  1. 1000 savings challenge (+185%)
  2. Bi-weekly savings challenge (+355%)
  3. Budget challenge (+135%)
  4. Envelope challenge savings (+155%)
  5. 100 envelope challenge (+145%)

The pandemic helped drive more interest in the stock market and investing. But given 2022’s horrific market performance and many everyday people worried about a recession in 2023, a trend focused on saving money seems like a solid bet. 💰

What that means for individual stocks or investment opportunities remains to be seen. But what’s clear is that keeping track of consumer trends is an integral part of many investors’ processes.

You can read the full report for more insights into what they’re expecting. And we’ll have to wait and see if the trends of its users set the tone for the rest of the year. 🤷

The first and most prevalent news story was that Adobe and Figma have called off their $20 billion acquisition. JetBlue Jumps As Icahn Accumulates

It’s been a rough few months for JetBlue shareholders after the airline’s merger with Spirit Airlines was blocked by U.S. regulators. However, the stock is popping after hours on news that a billionaire hedge fund manager is dumpster diving and sees value in the stock. 💸

Activist investor Carl Icahn reported a nearly 10% stake, which he’s accumulated on the belief that the stock is undervalued following its recent selloff. He’s already had discussions with the company regarding possibly attaining board representation.
