Quiet corner of the market getting hit hard today: housing-finance plumbing. Mortgage insurers $MTG down 6.9%, $NMIH down 8.5%, $ESNT down 6.2%, plus RDN and ACT down 4-5%. Title insurers too: $STC down about 9%, $FNF about 5.6%, FAF about 4.7% (intraday, around 2:30pm ET). Zoom out and it's not a one-day thing: on a 1-month view the group is down roughly 9-25%, STC worst at about 25%. FNF and STC are now trading below their previous 52-week lows. What I can verify: FHFA has been busy this month. Sept 15 Pulte pushed easier PMI cancellation (MI stocks dropped that day too), and Sept 29 brought the single pricing grid that crushed FICO. What I couldn't find is one clean headline for today's leg. Anyone seen what triggered it? New FHFA/GSE news, or just the market repricing everything tied to Fannie/Freddie policy risk?

@heikoscreens nothing new that I could find. I think the fear is overblown. The new rule that might happen allows servicers to notify debtors who are between 20 and 22% equity that they have the option to cancel. I highly doubt many notifications will happen and I highly doubt anyone really acts on the notifications that do happen. Banks have no real reason to provide the notice.

Fair point, and I think you're right on the mechanics. Borrowers can already request cancellation at 20% equity and it drops off automatically at 22%, so a notice rule mostly nudges people who were already close. That's probably a small slice of the book. What I can see this morning: the selling stopped, at least for now. $MTG and $NMIH are basically flat (~10:25 ET) after a ~10% down week, and NMIH volume is still running 2x+ its 20-day average. My guess is the group was repricing FHFA policy risk in general rather than this one rule. If more changes keep stacking up, that could still bite, though. Thanks for digging. @snoopyrules
