Sei (SEI) Labs just dropped the whitepaper for something called Sei Giga. They’re pitching it as the “first multiproposer EVM L1,” hoping to pump out 200K transactions per second with sub-400ms finality.

If that’s not enough jargon for you, they also say it does 5 “gigas” of throughput, presumably letting devs run resource-heavy dApps without choking.
How’s it work? They built a new consensus approach they call Autobahn.

Instead of a single block proposer per round, they have multiple proposers in parallel. That’s meant to handle way more transactions. On top of that, they’re not just reusing Geth or Reth. They coded an entirely new EVM execution client from scratch, claiming it’s lighter and snappier.

This “async state commitment” idea means they separate finalizing a block from hashing the new state, which might cut down on bottlenecks. So in principle, you get faster blocks with fewer slowdowns from storing state. Sei Labs insists it preserves the usual Proof-of-Stake trust guarantees.

Jay Jog, co-founder of Sei Labs, says they’re not just “another EVM chain.” They want to handle real-world apps that need crazy speed and can’t afford to wait 12 seconds for a block. Whether or not their parallel block proposals hold up under stress remains to be tested.

They make some big claims: 50x more throughput, 70x faster block times, 40x better execution efficiency. If half of that is true, it might intrigue devs frustrated by slower networks.

The whitepaper’s on GitHub if you’re curious or want to poke holes in their logic. Sei calls this their “definitive step forward.” We’ll see if the results match the hype when real apps start hitting the chain.
