Boeing Co. (BA) has reportedly proposed delivering new Air Force One jets by 2027, according to a U.S. Air Force official’s confirmation.
Boeing was initially supposed to deliver the new Air Force One jets by 2024, but delays have pushed the timeline back by three years, according to a Reuters report.
“We are looking at the requirements that are being potentially traded off to get to that date, and so I would not necessarily guarantee that date, but they're proposing to bring it into '27,” Darlene Costello, acting assistant secretary of the Air Force, told the House Armed Services Committee.
This comes after President Trump, during his previous term, got Boeing to agree to work on two 747-8 aircraft.
According to Costello, Boeing is currently coordinating with the Air Force to arrive at an “acceptable” capability for Air Force One.
She added that the U.S. government has temporarily lifted a few security requirements for the production facility, which has improved the speed and efficiency of production.
Boeing’s new CEO, Kelly Ortberg, said in February that Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk, who is assisting the Trump administration with the Department of Government Efficiency efforts, was helping Boeing navigate challenges around the production and delivery of these Air Force One jets.
According to a Reuters report, Trump ruled out going with Boeing rival Airbus despite his disagreements with the Virginia-based aircraft company.
Musk, too, has had disagreements with Boeing in the past – his company, SpaceX, is a direct rival of Boeing’s space efforts.
Boeing’s stock was up 3.72% at the time of writing. It has gained 8.74% year-to-date.
