Meta announced Thursday the global rollout of "Instagram Plus," a new subscription service that introduces a suite of exclusive tools, customization options, and advanced analytics to the popular social media platform.

The company emphasized that the standard Instagram experience users currently access will remain completely free. Instagram Plus is positioned strictly as an optional upgrade for users seeking greater control over their feeds, deeper insights into their audience engagement, and enhanced aesthetic customization.

Instagram Plus features

The premium tier features are divided into three primary categories focused on social connection, analytics, and profile personalization.

To help users connect with their close circles, the platform is introducing "Multiple Story Audiences," allowing subscribers to segment their viewers into custom lists beyond the existing "Close Friends" feature. Subscribers can also utilize "Story Spotlight" to prioritize their posts in friends' feeds, extend the lifespan of their stories from 24 to 48 hours, and send animated "Super Hearts."

For creators and users who track engagement, Instagram Plus provides the highly requested algorithmic transparency tools. Subscribers can now access "Story Rewatch Insights" to see how many times their stories have been viewed repeatedly, use a search bar to instantly scan their viewer lists for specific users, and preview others' stories without immediately triggering a view receipt.

Aesthetically, the paid tier opens up new visual customization options. Users can choose custom app icons designed by prominent creators, apply unique fonts to their bio profiles, and double their profile pin limit from three posts to six. Additionally, a new "Post Directly to Profile" feature allows subscribers to archive photos directly to their grid or highlights without blasting the update into their followers' main home feeds.

The service is rolling out globally, effective immediately, with Meta promising that additional premium features will be added to the subscription tier over the coming months. Meta did not immediately disclose regional monthly pricing for the new service.
