Mark Zuckerberg’s newly formed Meta Superintelligence Labs is reportedly expected to announce a major restructuring on Tuesday.

According to The New York Times report, sources said that one group will focus on AI research, another on products, a third on infrastructure, and the fourth on AI hardware. Some details of the restructuring were previously reported by The Information. Meta’s stock slipped 1.8% in afternoon trade with retail sentiment on Stocktwits dropping to ‘bearish’ from ‘neutral’ territory over the past day.

The Times report said that the restructuring is aimed at streamlining operations and accelerating Meta’s ability to develop artificial intelligence products as the company works to keep pace with rivals in the fast-moving AI race.

The overhaul could involve executive departures and potential downsizing of the AI division, which has grown to thousands of employees in recent years, sources said. They added that some staff could be reassigned to other parts of the company, while others may see their roles eliminated. Discussions remain fluid, and no final decision has been made, according to the report.

Meta is also reportedly considering incorporating outside AI models into its products instead of relying solely on its technology. That could include building on open-source models, which are freely available, or licensing closed-source models from other firms.

The report follows months of rumours around Meta’s AI strategy as the company pushes to remain competitive with tech giants, including OpenAIGoogle, and Amazon-backed Anthropic. Zuckerberg, 41, has signaled he is willing to spend aggressively and reorganize his company to secure a foothold in the next wave of AI development.
