Nykaa launches AI-based ‘Skin Scan’ feature for personalised skincare picks

Fashion and beauty retailer Nykaa has introduced Skin Scan, an AI-driven tool on its mobile app that offers users a personalised skin analysis using a selfie. The feature is part of the company’s push to integrate more technology-led experiences into its beauty and skincare categories.

The tool prompts users to take a photo using real-time camera tracking, then analyses up to 15 skin parameters including dark spots, firmness, radiance, pore size, oiliness, hydration, acne, redness, uneven texture and under-eye concerns.

Skin Scan displays the results as a visual map on the user’s photograph, with each concern scored on a scale of one to 100, marked with simple indicators such as “needs attention” or “in good condition.” Users can track these scores over time to monitor changes in their skin condition.

The tool then recommends a set of products based on the analysis. The company said this is intended to make product selection easier by connecting each recommendation to a specific skin issue.

Nykaa said the technology behind Skin Scan is trained on over 70,000 medically graded images and also provides additional insights such as estimated skin age and how a user’s skin scores compare with others in the same age group.

With a reported base of nearly 40 million beauty consumers, Nykaa expects Skin Scan to help map customer skin-concern patterns and support more personalised product discovery and routine building on the platform.

Skin Scan is now available to all users on the updated Nykaa app under the Skin category.
