Nike To Lay Off 1% Corporate Staff: Report

According to a CNBC report, the layoffs will not affect Nike’s EMEA and Converse businesses; however, it is unclear how many jobs will be impacted. 

U.S. auto safety regulator stated on Tuesday that automaker General Motors (GM) is recalling 23,656 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles in the country over heightened risks of fire.The recall involves model year 2023-2026 Corvette vehicles equipped with a left-side radiator or fan combination, including some Corvette convertibles and coupes. Excess fuel may spill into the vehicle fuel-filler pocket during refueling and leak onto an ignition source such as a hot engine or exhaust components, increasing the risk of a fire, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V536-9882.pdf">said</a>.The regulator said that dealers will install a shield to divert spilled fuel, at no cost to the customer, to resolve the issue. On June 12, a fourth incident occurred in a GM-owned development Corvette test vehicle. GM subsequently opened a product investigation on June 17.GM’s investigation identified four alleged fires that are potentially relevant to the condition. Customer reports, photographs, and video evidence indicated that malfunctioning filling station pumps were a contributing factor in at least two of the four field fires, GM said. It added that two of these incidents involved minor alleged injuries. GM Recalls Nearly 24,000 Chevrolet Corvette Vehicles In The US: Find Out Why

Eli Lilly and Company (LLY) announced on Tuesday that its oral weight-loss drug candidate Orforglipron delivered significant weight loss, meaningful average blood glucose reduction, and improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors at 72 weeks in a late-stage trial.At the highest dose of 36 mg, Orforglipron, taken once per day without food and water restrictions, lowered weight by an average of 10.5% compared to 2.2% with placebo, the company <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://investor.lilly.com/news-releases/news-release-details/lillys-oral-glp-1-orforglipron-successful-third-phase-3-trial">said</a>. The most commonly reported adverse events were gastrointestinal-related and generally mild-to-moderate in severity.The company noted that 6.1% to 10.6% of participants in the study discontinued treatment across doses due to adverse events, as compared to 4.6% with placebo. Overall treatment rates were between 19.1% to 20.5% in patients who received the oral weight loss drug, as compared to 20% with placebo.With Orforglipron, Lilly is attempting to expand its impact in the obesity treatment market dominated by GLP-1 injections. Orforglipron was discovered by Chugai Pharmaceutical Co. and licensed by Lilly in 2018. AbbVie (ABBV) on Monday announced that it will acquire Gilgamesh Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s lead investigational candidate Bretisilocin, which is currently in clinical development for treating patients with moderate-to-severe major depressive disorder (MDD).Under the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://news.abbvie.com/2025-08-25-AbbVie-to-Acquire-Gilgamesh-Pharmaceuticals-Bretisilocin,-a-Novel,-Investigational-Therapy-for-Major-Depressive-Disorder,-Expanding-Psychiatry-Pipeline">deal</a>, AbbVie will acquire Gilgamesh's Bretisilocin program for up to $1.2 billion. This is inclusive of an upfront payment and development milestones, the company said.Bretisilocin is a novel, psychedelic compound. Eli Lilly has increased the price of its popular weight loss drug Mounjaro in the U.K. by as much as 170%, The Financial Times reported on Thursday.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;As per the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.ft.com/content/b71a1c59-2735-4ec8-b895-59c562edeeac">report</a>, the price for a month’s supply of the highest doses of the drug will rise from £122 ($165) to £330, an increase of 170%, while prices for lower doses will rise by between 45% and 138%, starting in September. Eli Lilly Inks Up To $1.3B Deal With Superluminal Medicines To Develop Obesity Drugs

Apple Inc. (AAPL) is planning a slew of products, including robots, a lifelike version of Siri, a smart speaker with a display, and home-security cameras, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.The tabletop robot, resembling an iPad mounted on a movable limb that can follow users in a room, is targeted for 2027, the report said. The robot, meant to serve as a virtual companion, is key to the company’s AI strategy, Bloomberg <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-08-13/apple-s-ai-turnaround-plan-robots-lifelike-siri-and-home-security-cameras">noted</a>.According to the report, the company’s plans could be changed or scrapped, given that the products have not been announced yet. The project is being led in part by Kevin Lynch, who previously oversaw the company’s push into smart watch software and cars, Bloomberg said. &nbsp;Apple is also developing several other robots and has “loosely discussed” humanoids, while also planning a standalone display, code-named J490, for homes. The display will have home control, music playback, note-taking, web browsing, and video conferencing, the report said.Both the smart display and tabletop robot will run a new operating system dubbed Charismatic, designed to be used by multiple people, Bloomberg said.
