Should You Bet on the Recent Rally in Bitcoin & Ethereum ETFs?

Bitcoin & Ethereum ETFs are rallying, but regulatory delays, volatility and macro risks raise a key question -- can the rally last?

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Ethereum’s open interest increased simultaneously with its price as per on-chain data, as it crossed the $2300 level on Wednesday.</li><li>Historical data showed that similar spikes in open interest coincided with strong price rallies in Ethereum, according to Santiment.</li><li>It noted that BlackRock’s recent transfers, along with the rise in accumulation addresses, point to growing institutional and on-chain activity.</li></ul>Ethereum (ETH) open interest rose sharply as ETH bounced back toward the $2,300 level on Wednesday, a level of derivative positioning seen last before the February pullback.Santiment data&nbsp;showed that Ethereum open interest has been rising again this month after falling along with the price in February. After that phase, both open interest and price went down. The most recent trend showed that open interest was rising again as ETH's price rose.According to Santiment, this indicated that Ethereum entered a “leveraged equilibrium zone,” where both the price and the open interest were going up at the same time. There was immediate support between $2,200 and $2,300. If momentum stays steady, the current setup could lead to a breakout squeeze.The move came after BlackRock expanded its Ethereum-focused offerings. Arkham data&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://intel.arkm.com/explorer/entity/blackrock">showed</a> that BlackRock deposited 567 BTC, worth around $41.78 million, into Coinbase and transferred $52.4 million of ETH on Tuesday.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/ethereum">Ethereum&nbsp;</a>was trading at $2,326, up by 0.5% over 24 hours. Last week, CryptoQuant analyst CW8900&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://cryptoquant.com/insights/quicktake/69b3bc8f8792916e61ec6d29-Although-Ethereums-price-is-stagnant-network-activity-actually-shows-bullish-mov">noted</a> that accumulation addresses on Ethereum increased by about 6.5 million ETH, indicating growing long-term holding behavior.The analyst added that daily active addresses rose to around 1.1 million in February, which was the highest level since December 2022. Things may get less secure, but the overall network will keep running.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">The 5 North Stars For Ethereum</h2>The document’s inception was at an Ethereum Foundation workshop in January 2026, according to Drake. He said the name combines “strawmap” and “roadmap,” acknowledging that drafting a proposal to satisfy stakeholders in a decentralized ecosystem is “effectively impossible.”&nbsp;The strawmap is centered around five “north stars” as its technical objectives, according to Drake. The first of which is a "fast L1," which targets short slots and finality in seconds. The second is "gigagas L1," which aims to reach a transaction speed of 1 gigagas per second via zkEVMs and real-time proving.&nbsp;The third target is "teragas L2," looking to hit 1 gigabyte per second of data bandwidth, or 10 million transactions per second. For Bitcoin, this was the first time this year that daily net inflows topped $500 million.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Bitcoin ETF Demand Rebounds After Five-Week Slump</h2>According to data from SoSoValue, Bitcoin spot ETF inflows stood at $560 million so far this week, after over $500 million came in on Tuesday. BlackRock’s&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/IBIT">iShares Bitcoin ETF</a> (IBIT) led the gains, accounting for around $300 million of the total, followed by the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GBTC">Grayscale Bitcoin Trust</a> (GBTC) at around $100 million.On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around IBIT remained in ‘bullish’ territory over the past day, while retail sentiment around GBTC continued to trend in the ‘bullish’ zone. Retail sentiment around ETHE, however, improved to ‘bullish’ from ‘neutral’ territory over the past day but saw ‘low’ levels of chatter.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/ethereum">Ethereum’s price</a> climbed as high as $2,100, paring gains and holding ground above $2,000, still up by 7.7% in the last 24 hours and outperforming Bitcoin. The company was among many pivoting toward a crypto-led balance sheet, hoping to replicate the success of Strategy (MSTR) and its Bitcoin (BTC) playbook.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Crypto Rout Forces Ethereum Liquidations</h2>ETHZilla held over 100,000 Ethereum at its peak, according to&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://defillama.com/digital-asset-treasury/ethz">data</a> from DefiLlama. However, once the crypto market started to fall after October’s peak, the company was among the first few that were forced to sell.&nbsp;ETHZ sold around $40 million of Ethereum in October to fund stock repurchases. It then sold another $74.5 million worth of ETH tokens in December to repay senior secured convertible notes.The company has around 65,786 ETH left on its balance sheet, valued at around $138.82 million. Its average purchase price stands at $3,841, well below Ethereum’s current trading range.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/ethereum">Ethereum’s price</a> has been struggling to climb back above the $2,000 mark this month. The altcoin was trading at around $1,998 on Tuesday night, up 1.2% in the last 24 hours and leading gains among major tokens. Simply put, the company has two jet engines it plans to lease to airlines. Last week, it announced its first equity token, the Eurus Aero Token 1, backed by engine lease cash flows.While this suggests the company is looking beyond a pure Ethereum play to buff up its balance sheet, it could also be a Hail Mary to avoid going under.
