Alphabet’s Nobel Prize-winning artificial intelligence chief, Demis Hassabis, said drug discovery timelines could soon shrink from years to months&nbsp;due to the power of artificial intelligence, with his Isomorphic Labs unit working with Eli Lilly and Novartis.“In the next couple of years, I’d like to see that cut down in a matter of months, instead of years. Isomorphic Labs has raised $600 million and is targeting cancer and immune disorders, with executives saying AI-designed drugs could eventually turn many cancers into chronic conditions.

The Federal Trade Commission on Thursday ordered Alphabet Inc. (GOOG/GOOGL), OpenAI, Meta Platforms Inc. (META), Elon Musk’s xAI, and three other AI chatbot developers to provide information on how their technology affects children.The antitrust and consumer protection agency stated that the orders are intended to facilitate its investigation into how companies measure, test, and monitor their chatbots, as well as the steps taken to limit usage by children and teenagers.FTC Commissioner Melissa Holyoak said the orders are part of a Section 6(b) study into the risks posed by generative AI chatbots. “I have been concerned by reports that AI chatbots can engage in alarming interactions with young users, as well as reports suggesting that companies offering generative AI companion chatbots might have been warned by their own employees that they were deploying the chatbots without doing enough to protect young users,” Holyoak wrote.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GOOG">Google’s stock</a> traded flat in midday trade on Thursday as retail sentiment on Stocktwits dipped to ‘neutral’ from ‘bullish’ over the past day. It also wants information on the prevalence of sexually themed interactions between chatbots and minors, the use of parental controls, and whether companies’ data collection practices vary based on age. Alphabet’s (GOOG, GOOGL) health-tech unit Verily is reportedly facing allegations that it improperly used data from more than 25,000 patients and concealed the violations, according to a lawsuit filed by a former executive.CNBC&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/11/alphabet-verily-hipaa-diabetes-whistleblower.html">reported</a> that ex-employee Ryan Sloan claimed he was fired after flagging breaches of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to senior management. The report added that his complaint was filed in federal court in San Francisco late last year and had not been previously reported.<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/GOOG">Alphabet’s stock</a> edged 0.6% lower in morning trade on Thursday, despite the broader market trading higher after the consumer price index&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/us-consumer-inflation-august-cpi-report/chwNSJ9Rdvi">reading</a> for August came in hotter than expected on a monthly basis but in line with expectations on an annual basis. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the company dipped to ‘neutral’&nbsp; from ‘bullish’ territory, and chatter also dropped to ‘normal’ from ‘high’ levels over the past day.According to the report, the suit alleges that in January 2022, Sloan and Julia Feldman, Onduo’s general counsel, discovered Verily had improperly used patients’ protected health information in research, marketing campaigns, press releases, and national conferences. The filing claims the “extensive violations” affected more than 25,000 patients in Onduo’s diabetes program.Sloan and Feldman reportedly informed senior leaders and repeatedly raised concerns. An internal investigation allegedly confirmed multiple HIPAA breaches, including 14 violations of agreements with large clients between 2017 and 2021. Impacted patients may include those served through Walgreens Boots Alliance, Highmark Health, Quest Diagnostics (DGX), and Delta Air Lines (DAL).Under HIPAA, companies must notify affected parties within 60 days of discovering a breach. The reported lawsuit claims Verily delayed notifications while negotiating contract renewals, representing to clients that it remained compliant. In August 2022, Feldman and another employee&nbsp;who were aware of the breaches were terminated, the report said. When Sloan raised the issues again in October 2022 with Verily’s then-chief revenue officer, she reportedly defended the decision to conceal the breaches, citing concerns over public relations.The report&nbsp;added that a judge rejected Verily’s bid to dismiss the case or move it into arbitration, allowing the lawsuit to proceed on Monday. “Verily believes the allegations and contentions alleged in this employment matter that was commenced in 2023 are completely without merit. Verily will defend itself to the full extent of the law,” a company spokesperson said in a statement to CNBC.&nbsp;Verily, which originally developed hardware like continuous glucose monitors, pivoted to pandemic response during COVID-19 in 2020 before refocusing on precision health in 2022. Lyft (LYFT) is launching an autonomous vehicle service in partnership with May Mobility in Atlanta, raising competition for Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOG, GOOGL) Waymo.Under a pilot program, riders using the Lyft app can be matched with a modified hybrid-electric Toyota Sienna minivan operated by Michigan-based May Mobility. Lyft Launches Robotaxi Service In Atlanta With May Mobility

(PUBM) has reportedly sued Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOG) (GOOGL) Google in a federal court in Virginia over allegations of monopoly violations in the advertising technology field.According to a Bloomberg&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-09-08/google-sued-over-monopoly-violations-by-advertising-exchange">report</a>, PubMatic CEO Rajeev Goel stated that a prior federal judge's ruling in April, which determined that Google had illegally monopolized the advertising services market, was “meaningful but not complete.”<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GOOGL">Google’s shares</a> were up 0.4% in Monday’s opening trade, while&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/PUBM">PubMatic’s shares</a> gained 0.6%. Google To Be Hit With EU Antitrust Fine Over Adtech Practices On Friday: Report

Reuters reported that the fine, originally scheduled for Monday, was delayed after EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic objected amid ongoing tariff tensions between the U.S. and the EU.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy on Thursday announced the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is launching three rulemakings aimed at modernizing federal safety standards for vehicles with automated driving systems.According to the auto safety regulator, current standards were written decades ago and fail to account for automated vehicles.“The rules of the road need to be updated to fit the realities of the 21st century. Our changes will eliminate redundant requirements and bring us closer to a single national standard that spurs innovation and prioritizes safety,” Duffy said, while also warning that adversaries will “fill the void” if America does not engage with transportation innovation.The NHTSA stated that the three rulemakings aim to relax mandates related to transmission, windshield defrosting and defogging systems, as well as lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment in vehicles equipped with automated driving systems and no manual controls. The changes will deliver on NHTSA’s Automated Vehicle Framework, unveiled in April and aimed at slashing red tape and pushing the commercial deployment of AVs, it added.The move will come as a relief to players, including EV giant Tesla Inc. (TSLA), attempting to enable autonomous driving and ride-hailing. Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOG, GOOGL) Waymo is currently the biggest robotaxi operator in the U.S., with its autonomous ride-hailing available across multiple cities, including Austin, Texas, as well as Atlanta, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. Earlier this week, Waymo <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/waymo-to-begin-testing-robotaxis-in-seattle-denver/chwTyVoRd8F">also said </a>that it would begin testing its autonomous vehicles in Denver and Seattle.The new announcement comes on the heels of others aimed at easing the deployment of robotaxis.
