This comes at a time when some AI startups, such as OpenAI, are working to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI), while companies like Tesla are developing humanoid robots.“When people in the AI space predict that AGI or fully humanoid robots will come soon and then those deadlines are missed, it creates the impression that these things will never happen,” Gates said, warning against becoming complacent about the risks posed by AI.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Risk Of Bioterrorism</h2>Gates cautioned that an even greater risk than a pandemic today is the use of AI by bad actors to design a bioterrorism weapon.He recalled his 2015&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Af6b_wyiwI">TED Talk</a>, in which he warned that the world was not prepared to handle a pandemic.Five years later, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, resulting in the death of more than seven million people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Disruption Of The Job Market</h2>The Microsoft co-founder added that AI has gotten good enough that it is already causing disruption in areas like software development. While other areas, like warehousing or phone support, are not as affected, he warned that once the AIs become more capable, the job disruption will be more immediate.“AI capabilities will allow us to make far more goods and services with less labor. In a mathematical sense, we should be able to allocate these new capabilities in ways that benefit everyone,” he said.He cautioned that the impact of AI on the job market will only grow over the next five years.“Both are real risks that we need to do a better job managing. We’ll need to be deliberate about how this technology is developed, governed, and deployed,” Gates said.Meanwhile, U.S. equities gained in Wednesday’s opening trade. The bottom-line result notably exceeded the Fiscal.ai-compiled consensus of $2.17, while the top line was just ahead of the $2.42 billion consensus.&nbsp;The faster pace of repurchases during the quarter also boosted the EPS.&nbsp;Subscription revenue climbed 14.6% to $2.24 billion. The 12-month subscription revenue backlog climbed 17.6% YoY to $8.21 billion, accelerating from the 16.4% increase in the second quarter.CEO Carl Eschenbach said, “Workday delivered another solid quarter, fueled by the strength and diversity of our business and the momentum we're seeing across our AI portfolio.”&nbsp;The company said the quarterly performance was driven by “continued progress across several key growth initiatives.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">Workday’s Outlook</h2>CFO Zane Rowe said, “We now expect fiscal 2026 subscription revenue of $8.828 billion, growth of 14%, and non-GAAP operating margin of approximately 29%."The company guided fourth-quarter subscription revenue to $2.355 billion, up 15.5%, and an adjusted operating margin of at least 28.5%. Workday Stock Takes A Hit After Piper Sandler Survey Flags AI-Driven Headwinds, But Retail’s Optimistic

Piper Sandler downgraded Workday to Underweight, citing concerns about slowing application demand and AI-driven reductions in headcount.

(WDAY) is scheduled to report its fiscal year 2025 fourth-quarter results after&nbsp;the closing bell on Tuesday.&nbsp;The Finchat-compiled consensus calls for adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.78 and revenue of $2.18 billion, up 13.5% year over year (YoY). In the year-ago quarter, the company reported&nbsp;an adjusted EPS and revenue of $1.157 and $1.92 billion,&nbsp;respectively.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/WDAY">Workday stock </a>pulled back following the company’s third-quarter results in late November as investors did not take kindly to the company’s full-year subscription revenue guidance cut.Given the precedence, the forward guidance for the first quarter and the current fiscal year is expected to determine the stock's near-term direction.Investors may also focus on other key metrics, such as the fourth-quarter subscription revenue, which was guided to $2.025 billion, adjusted operating margin , estimated at 25%, 12-month subscription revenue backlog, and operating cash flow.&nbsp;Last week, Morgan Stanley analyst Keith Weiss downgraded the stock to ‘Equal-Weight’ from ‘Overweight’ and reduced the price target to $275 from $330. Among the pushbacks mentioned by the analyst are recent negative revisions, headcount reductions, Workday’s go-to-market investments not paying off as expected, and weak fourth-quarter results from enterprise software companies.Loop Capital also has a ‘Hold’ rating on Workday stock with a $260 price target, while Goldman Sachs rates it ‘Buy’ with a $310 price target.On Stocktwits, retail sentiment toward Workday stock turned to ‘bearish’ (28/100) from the ‘bullish’ mood that prevailed a day ago.
