Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. XRP is trending amid an imminent Senate vote on the Clarity Act, with bulls anticipating a "parabolic" price surge from potential institutional adoption due to legal certainty. Conversely, a significant portion of the community dismisses the bill as a "nothing burger" and attributes ongoing price suppression to perceived token dumps by Ripple, labeling the asset a "scam."

Bitcoin is the world's first decentralized cryptocurrency, created in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. It enables peer-to-peer electronic cash transactions without intermediaries like banks or governments, operating on a blockchain secured by Proof of Work mining and the SHA-256 cryptographic algorithm.   With a fixed supply cap of 21 million coins and programmatic halvings every four years that reduce miner rewards, Bitcoin is designed as a deflationary digital asset often called "digital gold." Its value stems from solving the double-spending problem without trusted intermediaries, creating the first truly scarce digital asset with censorship resistance and permissionless access that no government, corporation, or individual can control.  Bitcoin operates as a decentralized peer-to-peer network where transactions are recorded on a public ledger called the blockchain, distributed across thousands of computers globally. Transactions are grouped into blocks added approximately every 10 minutes through mining, where specialized computers compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles.   Bitcoin has achieved mainstream adoption through multiple vectors. The January 2024 SEC approval of 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs opened Bitcoin investment to traditional finance participants, and corporations like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) are using Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset to protect against currency debasement, offering MSTR holders amplified exposure to Bitcoin.   The Bitcoin ecosystem continues to evolve with innovations like Ordinals, which emerged in January 2023 to enable NFT-like functionality directly on Bitcoin, and BRC-20 tokens, an experimental standard for creating fungible tokens using Ordinal inscriptions. BTCFi (Bitcoin Finance) represents emerging financial applications extending beyond Bitcoin's traditional role, with protocols like Babylon allowing Bitcoin holders to stake BTC to secure Proof of Stake chains.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Monday that additional negotiations are needed with India to reach a trade deal before the&nbsp;Aug. 1 deadline, when new U.S. tariffs of up to 26% are set to take effect.&nbsp;Greer said the U.S. is still working to understand how far India is willing to go in the negotiations, noting that opening up its traditionally protected domestic market would represent a significant shift in policy for New Delhi, according to a Bloomberg&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-07-29/us-needs-more-negotiations-with-india-for-trade-deal-greer-says">report</a>.&nbsp;His comments came just days after Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal struck a much more upbeat tone.&nbsp;Speaking from London last week, Goyal said he was confident a deal could be reached and downplayed any hurdles, adding that immigration topics like H-1B visas hadn’t even come up in this year’s talks.&nbsp;He described U.S. officials, including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Greer, as "very dear friends." Despite the positive tone from both sides, the talks have been dragging on for months.&nbsp;The U.S. wants more access to India’s tightly regulated farm and dairy markets, while India&nbsp;has been pushing to ease tariffs on key exports, such as medicines and car parts.&nbsp;Trump has also threatened secondary sanctions on countries like India for buying oil from Russia, further complicating talks.India recently signed a free trade agreement with the UK,&nbsp;which eliminates tariffs on products such as cars and alcohol.
