Boeing Faces Prolonged Strike As St. Louis Workers Reject Third Contract Proposal: Report

According to Bloomberg News, some St. Louis workers noted that the company's offer and an earlier 2022 agreement don’t go far enough toward reversing their losses from a 2014 contract.

Boeing (BA) CEO Kelly Ortberg said that the company is still running behind schedule in the certification process of the newest model of its long-haul 777 family.The stock slipped 3.3% on Thursday, the seventh successive day of decline. Retail chatter also jumped over 200% as Ortberg flagged delays in the rollout of the 777x model, which has already cost Boeing billions of dollars.Ortberg said that ‘a mountain of work’ is still there before the certification, but the aircraft has not faced any new technical challenges. “Even a minor schedule delay on the 777 program has a pretty big financial impact because we're in a reach-forward loss situation,” he said at the Morgan Stanley Laguna conference.The aircraft was initially slated to enter service in 2020, but Boeing does not expect to deliver it to customers before next year.Retail sentiment on Stocktwits about <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/BA">Boeing</a> was in the ‘bullish’ territory at the time of writing.However, Ortberg assured that the company still plans to raise its 737 MAX production to 42 per month by the end of the year from the 38 it is allowed to produce by the Federal Aviation Administration. “I don't see the supply chain challenges for us,” Ortberg said, which might prevent it from boosting output.The 737 MAX is the company’s best-selling jet, and Boeing needs to ramp up output soon to turn profitable. Boeing Freezes Contract Talks With Striking Workers Until After Labor Day

After taking an equity stake in Intel (INTC), Trump administration officials and military leaders are reportedly weighing whether the U.S. should acquire stakes in major defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin (LMT).“There’s a monstrous discussion about defense,” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutick&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/26/trump-pentagon-equity-stakes-in-defense-contractors.html">told</a> CNBC in an interview on Tuesday. Lutnick Says ‘Monstrous Discussion’ In Washington On Potential US Stake In Lockheed Martin, Other Defense Firms

In an interview with CNBC, Lutnick called Lockheed Martin an arm of the U.S. government and said the defense department is looking into the economics of acquiring an equity stake.

Cathay Pacific said on Wednesday that it would buy 14 Boeing widebody jets for about $8 billion to boost its fleet after posting a rise in profit in the first half of the year.The Hong Kong-based airline said it expects to receive the 777-9 airplanes by 2034 and has received significant discounts from the planemaker. It will also have the option to purchase seven more Boeing wide-body jets.Cathay said that the order came as the company exercised its option to purchase the aircraft under a 2013 agreement. Boeing (BA) stock caught the attention of retail traders late Sunday as the planemaker braces for a workers’ strike at its fighter jet-making facilities for the first time since 1996.Over 3,200 Boeing workers in St. Louis and St. Charles in Missouri, and Mascoutah, Illinois, voted to reject a modified four-year labor agreement with the aerospace giant, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union said on Sunday.“IAM District 837 members have spoken loud and clear, they deserve a contract that reflects their skill, dedication, and the critical role they play in our nation’s defense,” said union representative Tom Boelling. The previous contract had expired on July 27.
