Shares dropped 3% in overnight trading, and the company’s Hong Kong-listed shares closed 2.5% lower&nbsp;on Thursday.&nbsp;Despite pockets of frustration, retail trader sentiment for BABA has, in fact, climbed higher, shifting to ‘extremely bullish’ (88/100) as of early Thursday, from ‘bullish’ the previous day, according to Stocktwits data. I say sell your house and BUY, BUY, BUY!&nbsp; If it sinks down to $100 - sell you children and BUY! BUY! BUY!” a user&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/DeeBreeze/message/646641153">said</a> in a lighter vein, covering the bullish view. “The chart history tells all.”<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/BABA">Alibaba shares</a> hit a record high of $192.67 on Oct. 2 and have cumulatively gained 73% in 2025. Wednesday’s selloff average trading volume nearly double to 14.3 million.&nbsp;Another user&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/JensenNVDA/message/646647012">said</a> that the long-term risk in the stock appeared manageable. On the other side of the debate, traders voiced frustration over the selloff, warning that a weak earnings report, if it materializes, could push the stock significantly lower.“Why so weak?“&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/tinsam81/message/646638038">asked</a> a trader, while another&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/Kylea1/message/646645851">called</a> BABA a “cancer to my portfolio.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">BABA Analysts Remain Upbeat</h2>Earlier this week, Goldman Sachs upgraded its rating on Alibaba to ‘Conviction Buy’ from ‘Buy,’ and set a price target of $186. The target implies an upside of about 40%.Alibaba’s continued pole position in AI and cloud services in China, and improving profits in the core e-commerce business, is driving conviction, the investment research firm said in its note.&nbsp;&nbsp;Meanwhile, noted tech investor Cathie Wood’s Ark Invest&nbsp;The majority of analysts remain upbeat. At least 37 of the 42 covering the stock have a ‘Buy’ or higher rating on BABA, two recommend hold, and one recommends a ‘Strong Sell,’ according to Koyfin data. <ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Two major brokerages, Morgan Stanley and Jefferies, lowered their price targets on BABA, while keeping their ‘Buy’ ratings.</li><li>The stock gained sharply last year amid strength in Chinese tech stocks, but shares retreated slightly towards the end of the year.</li><li>Morgan Stanley analysts flagged weakness in Alibaba’s core e-commerce business due to poor consumer trends in China, while forecasting continued strength in the company’s cloud business.</li></ul>Morgan Stanley and Jefferies tempered their outlook on Alibaba’s stock amid recent share-price weakness, though both continue to recommend accumulating the shares.BABA fell 2.5% in early premarket trading on Friday. The stock had gained 5.3% the previous day.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Analysts’ Take</h2>Morgan Stanley lowered its price target on BABA to $180 from $200, according to an investor note on Thursday, Investing.com reported. Its analysts warned that “core e-comm businesses have started to worsen, due to weak consumption” trends in China, adding that the segment “may remain under pressure in 1HF27 due to a high base.”&nbsp;They said Alibaba’s overall profitability could weaken in the near to medium term, although strength in the cloud unit is expected to continue.&nbsp;Jefferies lowered its price target on the Chinese tech giant’s shares to $225 from $231, while affirming Alibaba as a top pick in 2026 given its opportunities in artificial intelligence and cloud.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Investors Still Largely Bullish&nbsp;</h2>Alibaba rallied widely in 2025, thanks to a rapid pace of AI rollout and commitment to higher investment in the domain, although&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/alibaba-stock-cools-off-into-year-end/cL75re3REDw">shares retreated</a> slightly towards the end of the year.The stock is widely watched at the moment, as China is reportedly set to allow sales of Nvidia’s H200 processor in the country.
