Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created by Charlie Lee. It was created based on the Bitcoin protocol but differs in terms of the hashing algorithm used. Litecoin uses the memory intensive Scrypt proof of work mining algorithm. Scrypt allows consumer-grade hardware such as GPU to mine those coins.  Why Litecoin? Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that has evolved from Bitcoin after its own popularity in the industry, this alternative, or ‘altcoin’ has emerged to allow investors to diversify their digital currency package, according to Investopedia. Litecoin is one of the most prominent altcoins and was created by former Google employee and Director of Engineering at Coinbase, Charlie Lee. Litecoin was the first to alter Bitcoin and the most significant difference is that it takes 2.5 minutes for Litecoin to generate a block, or transaction, in comparison to Bitcoin's 10 minutes.  ‘While this matters little to traders, miners who use hardware to run Bitcoin's network cannot switch over to Litecoin. This keeps bigger mining conglomerates away from Litecoin because they cannot easily optimize their profits by swapping to another coin, contributing to a more decentralized experience. Litecoin also has bigger blocks, and more coins in circulation, making it more affordable and swift when transacting,’ Investopedia explained.  As explained above, Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed. However, Litecoin’s blocks would be larger, but with more ‘orphaned blocks'. The faster block time of litecoin reduces the risk of double spending attacks - this is theoretical in the case of both networks having the same hashing power.  Litecoin Technical Details: The transaction confirmation time taken for Litecoin is about 2.5 minutes on average (as compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes). The Litecoin network is scheduled to cap at 84 million currency units.   Litecoin has inspired many other popular alternative currencies (eg. Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market.

With a fixed supply of 21 million ZEC and a halving schedule similar to Bitcoin, Zcash allows users to prove transactions are valid without revealing sensitive information like wallet balances, transaction amounts, or participant identities, making it suitable for everyday payments, long-term savings, and cross-border money transfers where financial confidentiality matters.  The protocol operates on its own blockchain currently using Proof-of-Work consensus, though it's evolving toward Proof-of-Stake through the planned "Crosslink" upgrade to enhance security, scalability, and energy efficiency. Zcash employs trustless zero-knowledge proofs (Halo) within its Orchard shielded pool to verify transactions without revealing sender, receiver, or amount information.   Users can choose between transparent public transactions and shielded private transactions through Unified Addresses, which work with both types. The network is faster and cheaper than Bitcoin, with new blocks mined every 75 seconds and transaction fees typically just a fraction of a cent. Privacy adoption has surged in 2025, with over 30% of total ZEC supply now held in fully shielded pools.  Zcash was created by a group of scientists in 2013 who initially proposed Zerocoin as a privacy extension to Bitcoin before building a standalone protocol. The ecosystem operates with a self-funded development model where block rewards support independent teams through the Zcash Community Grants Committee and a new Coinholder-Controlled Fund.

Some zones act as hubs with respect to other zones, allowing many zones to interoperate through a shared hub. The architecture uses classic BFT and Proof-of-Stake algorithms, instead of Proof-of-Work. Cosmos can interoperate with multiple other applications and cryptocurrencies, something other blockchains can’t do well. By creating a new zone, you can plug any blockchain system into the Cosmos hub and pass tokens back and forth between those zones, without the need for an intermediary.  While the Cosmos Hub is a multi-asset distributed ledger, there is a special native token called the atom. ATOM have three use cases: as a spam-prevention mechanism, as staking tokens, and as a voting mechanism in governance.  As a spam prevention mechanism, ATOM are used to pay fees. The fee may be proportional to the amount of computation required by the transaction, similar to Ethereum’s concept of “gas”. Fee distribution is done in-protocol and a protocol specification is described here.  As staking tokens, ATOM can be “bonded” in order to earn block rewards. The economic security of the Cosmos Hub is a function of the amount of ATOM staked. The more ATOM that are collateralized, the more “skin” there is at stake and the higher the cost of attacking the network. Thus, the more ATOM there are bonded, the greater the economic security of the network.  Atom holders may govern the Cosmos Hub by voting on proposals with their staked ATOM.

Investing.com -- The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) slipped on Friday following reports that President Donald Trump is pushing for higher tariffs on the European Union (EU).

Chart Industries (GTLS) and Flowserve (FLS) announced on Wednesday that they plan to merge in an all-stock deal, creating a $19 billion industrial equipment provider.Shares of Chart Industries rose more than 5% in pre-market trade, while Flowserve declined by over 2.6%.Flowserve, a major supplier of pumps, valves, and seals for industries such as chemicals and water treatment, had a market capitalization of about $6.6 billion as of Tuesday. Chart Industries, which manufactures equipment for handling gas and liquid molecules across energy, industrial gas, and space applications, was valued at roughly $7.2 billion.&nbsp;The combined company is forecast to have an enterprise value of $19 billion, including assumed debt.Chart shareholders would receive 3.165 shares of Flowserve for every Chart share they own. The combined company would be 53.5% owned by Chart shareholders and 46.5% by Flowserve shareholders on a fully diluted basis.Flowserve CEO Scott Rowe will lead the new entity, while Chart CEO Jill Evanko will assume the role of chair of the board. The combined company’s board will comprise 12 directors, six of whom will be from&nbsp;Chart and six from Flowserve.“Combining Chart and Flowserve creates a comprehensive solutions platform with the financial strength and operational resilience to drive sustained growth,”&nbsp;said Evanko.She said the deal is expected to deliver significant long-term benefits, including strong cash flow, operational synergies, and a larger aftermarket opportunity. “The combined company will be well-positioned to deliver durable value to shareholders,” she added.The companies said the combined entity will address the full customer lifecycle from process design through aftermarket support, allowing it to better compete with larger rivals such as Dover (DOV) and Ingersoll Rand (IR).It said that the key advantage of the deal lies in the expanded aftermarket business. With a combined installed base of over 5.5 million assets, the company anticipates generating approximately 42% of its revenue from services and recurring parts sales.&nbsp;Executives expect to grow that base further through the companies’ broader global footprint and enhanced service offerings.The companies also project approximately $300 million in annual cost savings within three years. These would come from supply chain efficiencies, overlapping facility closures, and&nbsp;the elimination of duplicate public company costs.&nbsp;Commercial revenue synergies are also anticipated to lift overall sales by at least 2%.Management also said it expects to maintain Flowserve’s dividend payout level while gradually reducing leverage and enhancing long-term profitability.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GTLS">Chart’s stock</a> has fallen more than 16% this year but gained around 2% over the past 12 months.
