Insurance company chief executives met Finance Ministry officials on Wednesday (September 10) to discuss recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) changes, according to sources. 
During the meeting, insurers requested that the applicability of GST changes be made prospective rather than retrospective. They also sought input tax credit (ITC) benefits on renewal policies. ITC allows businesses to set off taxes paid on inputs against their tax liability. 
Finance Ministry officials heard the representation from the industry and acknowledged the demands, sources said.

The meeting followed the GST Council’s September 3 decision to exempt individual life and health insurance policies, as well as reinsurance costs, from GST with effect from September 22. 
Insurance CEOs are scheduled to meet the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on September 12 to continue discussions on these issues. 
Separately, the <a href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/business/finance/insurance-ceos-to-meet-finance-ministry-officials-over-gst-concerns-itc-19668666.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Life Insurance Council is also expected to meet</a> the chairman of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) soon to seek support before escalating the matter to the government, sources said.

Insurance CEOs are scheduled to meet the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on September 12 to continue discussions on these issues.

InoxGFL Group expects its wind energy arm to cross 2 gigawatts of execution by the fiscal year 2026-27 (FY27), supported by a strong order pipeline and lower costs after the recent goods and services tax (GST) cut. 
 
Devansh Jain, Executive Director at InoxGFL Group, said, “Our guidance has been fairly clear. We’ve guided for about 1,200 megawatts in the fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26) and two gigawatt plus for 2026-27… for 2025-26, that’s a 70% growth year on year.”

The company has an order book of 3.2 GW, giving it confidence to raise its margin outlook. EBITDA guidance for 2025-26 has been upgraded to 18-19%, compared with 17-18% earlier. Jain added, “We had achieved 21% last year, and with actions like a new nacelle plant in Gujarat, crane operations, and transformer manufacturing, we are strengthening execution.” 
 
The recent reduction of GST on renewable energy equipment from 12% to 5% is also expected to lower costs. “Effectively, by reducing GST… we’ve cut down the cost of renewable energy by broadly 5-6%,” Jain said. He noted that while this may not directly lift profitability, it enables faster execution and capital deployment.

Indian Markets Extend Winning Streak But Nifty Fails To Hold 25,000; IT, PSU Banks Shine

Benchmarks rose for the sixth straight session on trade deal hopes. Auto and consumer durables saw selling pressure.

Rajkot-based prominent snack manufacturer, <a class="stockpage_articles" href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/market/stocks/gopal-snacks-share-price/GSL10/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gopal Snacks,</a> expects stronger growth this year, helped by the goods and services tax (GST) rate cut and expansion into new markets. 
 
Rigan Raithatha, CFO of Gopal Snacks, said the GST reduction adds momentum to consumer demand. “The GST rate cut is another leg up to the consumption story… all this has boosted more money available to the consumer,” he said. 
 
The company is maintaining its full-year revenue guidance of 15-20% growth from last year’s baseline, but expects to chase the higher end of that range. EBITDA growth is guided at 20-25%. 
 
Gopal Snacks is also betting on higher sales volumes. About 70% of its sales come from ₹5 SKUs, and the company plans a mix of increased grammage and lower pricing in certain packs. Raithatha noted, “We would be expecting somewhere around 5-6% of volume growth.”

The company is expanding through two long-term agreements for plants in Karnataka and Uttarakhand. These facilities are expected to add incremental revenue of about ₹90 crore and ₹100 crore, respectively, and reduce lead times by around 50%. 
 
The Modasa facility, set to replace part of Rajkot’s production, has a capacity of ₹700-800 crore. Raithatha explained this is not additional capacity but a shift of operations, with 60% moving to Modasa and 40% retained at Rajkot. 
 
The company is targeting gross margins of 25-26% this year, supported by easing supply chain issues after a fire at its Rajkot factory in December. Shares of Gopal Snacks, with a current market capitalisation of ₹4,500 crore, have risen more than 11% over the past year.

GST boost and expansion to step up Gopal Snacks’ growth

The company is expanding through two long-term agreements for plants in Karnataka and Uttarakhand. These facilities are expected to add incremental revenue of about ₹90 crore and ₹100 crore, respectively, and reduce lead times by around 50%.

Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, maker of weight-loss drug Wegovy, said Wednesday it would cut 9,000 jobs, 5,000 of them in Denmark, in order to strengthen the company's focus on growth opportunities in obesity and diabetes medications. 
 
The restructuring, which would eliminate 11% of the company's workforce, aimed to reduce organizational complexity and speed up decision-making as the company faces a more competitive market for obesity drugs. 
 
The streamlining would save 8 billion Danish krone ($1.25 billion) by the end of 2026, savings that are to be redirected to diabetes and obesity, including research and development, the company said. Novo Nordisk also makes Ozempic, a diabetes drug that also can result in weight loss. 
 
The company said implementation of the job cuts would begin immediately and that it would let the affected employees know over the next few months depending on local labor rules. The company, which is based in Bagsvaerd just outside Copenhagen, has 78,400 workers. 
 
“Our markets are evolving, particularly in obesity, as it has become more competitive and consumer-driven,” said President and CEO Mike Doustdar. "Our company must evolve as well. This means instilling an increased performance-based culture, deploying our resources ever more effectively, and prioritizing investment where it will have the most impact — behind our leading therapy areas.” 
 
Doustdar became CEO in May after his predecessor, Lars Fruergaard Jorgensen, left the company after the share price fell and as the company faced competition from weight-loss drugs from competitor Eli Lilly. Shares had skyrocketed after the introduction of Wegovy and Ozempic, which are both based on the same basic ingredient, semaglutide. 
 
At the peak, the company’s market capitalization — or the combined price of all its shares — exceeded Denmark’s annual gross domestic product and made it Europe’s most valuable company.

The formal agenda is expected to cover the future roadmap for PSBs, use of AI, governance, asset quality and customer satisfaction. The conference will also see participation from consulting firm McKinsey &amp; Co. and RBI Deputy Governor Swaminathan J. 
 
When asked specifically if some discussion is likely on the next round of bank mergers, “Many issues are likely to be discussed over the 2 day summit," a source told CNBC-TV18.

Adani Ports, TCS, Glenmark Among SEBI Analyst’s Breakout Calls 

The analyst highlights breakout opportunities in these stocks, provided that critical support levels are maintained.

With the recent GST rate rationalisation set to take effect from September 22, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on Wednesday (September 10) held detailed consultations with leading industry chambers — FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM and PHDCCI — to ensure a smooth transition and consumer-friendly implementation. 
 
The meeting, chaired by CBIC Chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal along with senior Board officials, focused on two key aspects: passing on the benefits of lower tax rates to consumers and resolving transitional issues relating to stocks and cess balances. 
 
“CBIC conveyed to the industry to ensure there are no profiteering matters and complaints by consumers. The Board asked industry to work with the government on a smooth transition and pass on the benefits of GST cuts,” said Saket Dalmia, Former President of PHDCCI, after the meeting. 
 
Background: GST cuts and consumer protection measures 
 
As part of its broader rate rationalisation exercise, the government recently slashed GST on a range of goods and services to reduce prices for end consumers and boost demand. The revised rates will come into force on September 22, requiring businesses across sectors to recalibrate pricing, packaging, and compliance systems. 
 
To facilitate this transition, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs issued a circular under the Legal Metrology Act, allowing companies to clear old inventory with pre-rate-cut MRPs until December 31. However, manufacturers and retailers must ensure that the revised, lower prices are clearly communicated to consumers through stickers, advertisements, or in-store displays. The circular aims to balance operational challenges for businesses with the government’s mandate that tax reductions translate into tangible consumer benefits. 
 
Clarifications on cess balances 
 
During Wednesday’s deliberations, CBIC also addressed industry concerns about the utilisation of accumulated cess amounts. “CBIC clarified yet again to the industry that the amounts pending in the cess account will not be adjusted against any other payments,” Dalmia said. This reiterates the government’s earlier stance that such balances cannot be offset against GST liabilities, a point repeatedly flagged by businesses. 
 
Industry concerns 
 
Industry representatives raised transition-related challenges in the insurance and automobile sectors, along with broader issues over existing stock already in circulation. While reiterating the Consumer Affairs circular, the government assured companies that procedural flexibility would be provided as long as consumer interests were safeguarded. 
 
Push for collaboration 
 
The CBIC’s message to industry was clear: ensure compliance with anti-profiteering provisions and avoid disputes that could arise if price benefits are not passed on. The meeting reflected the government’s proactive approach to working with industry stakeholders to smoothen the transition, minimise operational disruptions, and safeguard consumer interests. 
 
The GST Council had cleared the latest set of tax cuts earlier this month, with their implementation from September 22 seen as a key step in the broader tax rationalisation process aimed at stimulating consumption and streamlining the indirect tax system.
