It would also impose a new tax on wind and solar projects completed after Dec. 31, 2027, if they fail to prove that the projects did not include any Chinese components.“Where the original Senate version was a recipe for energy stagnation, this is outright energy surrender—all but guaranteeing Chinese dominance of critical minerals, industrial supply chains, and AI development,” a non-partisan energy security firm, SAFE, said.U.S. President Donald Trump has set a deadline to pass the bill by July 4. Sunnova Energy (NOVA) is set to lay off 718 employees, roughly 55% of its workforce, according to a Reuters <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/sunnova-energy-files-chapter-11-bankruptcy-protection-2025-06-05/">report</a> on Friday.The company reportedly filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act letter on May 30 notifying the state of the layoffs. The company did not disclose the cost implications or expenses related to the layoffs.On June 1, Sunnova TEP Developer, one of nearly 40 units under the Sunnova Energy banner, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the Southern District of Texas. Sunnova Stock In Focus After US Scraps $3B Loan Guarantee, Retail’s Bearish

Solar stocks slipped on Monday after reports said that conservative Republican lawmakers have secured commitments from senior leadership to phase out clean energy credits sooner than before.First Solar (FSLR) fell 7.3% — the top decliner in the S&amp;P 500 index — while Enphase Energy (ENPH) and Sunrun (RUN) slipped by 3.2% and 7.8%, respectively. Power producer AES also fell by over 4%.Bloomberg reported South Carolina Representative Ralph Norman saying that House leadership has agreed to a proposal to end Inflation Reduction Act tax credits earlier than Republicans’ original proposal of phasing them out from 2029 and ending completely by 2032Norman is among a small group of Republicans pushing for further cuts to the proposed tax and spending bill, which would raise the U.S. debt.The report added that House Republican leadership staff told reporters Monday that a phase-out date has yet to be decided, and it remains to be seen if it will cover projects where construction could start soon.Monday’s decline stopped a rally in solar stocks in recent weeks as the earlier GOP proposal was viewed as much more favorable than expected.The present bill must pass a vote in the House before progressing to the Senate. Sunnova Energy International Plc. (NOVA) stock will be in focus as markets open on Monday after the company announced a tax asset preservation plan.The initiative aims to allow Sunnova to carry forward its net operating losses (NOL) and other tax attributes to be set off against future income under terms of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC.)At the end of December, Sunnova had $1.4 billion in U.S. federal NOL carryforwards which can be used to set off against future taxable income.However, the company said its ability to do so would be “substantially limited” if its “5-percent shareholders” increased the ownership of the value of the company’s stock by 50 percentage points over a three-year rolling period under Section 382 of the IRC.Such an increase is classified by the IRC as an ownership change for the purposes of NOL availability.Sunnova said its tax asset preservation plan has been put in place to prevent this from happening. Shares of Sunnova Energy International Inc. (NOVA) defied a market-wide downturn to gain 1.8% in Monday’s regular trade after the company’s CEO, William Berger, stepped down from his role.Paul Mathews will take up the CEO mantle, rising from his previous role as the company’s chief operating officer. Berger, who founded Sunnova more than 12 years ago, will stay on as an advisor to help with the transition.Mathews joined Sunnova in 2023 and led the company’s efforts to improve its customer service experience, including backlogs and complaints.
