Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Shareholders of German automaker Volkswagen (VWAGY) criticized the company’s corporate governance on Friday at its virtual annual general meeting, Reuters <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/volkswagen-shareholders-demand-carmaker-reform-highly-problematic-governance-2025-05-16/">reported</a> on Friday.Several major investors pointed to CEO Oliver Blume’s role as head of both Volkswagen and Porsche. Volkswagen Shareholders Flag Governance Issues At Carmaker, Says Report

Several major investors pointed to CEO Oliver Blume’s role as head of both Volkswagen and Porsche as the reason, Reuters reported.

Volkswagen's (VWAGY) Audi Group on Monday retained its full-year revenue outlook while not accounting for the impact of Trump tariffs after its first-quarter (Q1) revenue jumped over 12% year over year. &nbsp;The group’s revenue in the quarter was €15.43 billion ($17.51 billion), up 12.4% from the same period last year, owing to factors including higher electric vehicle sales.Operating profit rose to €537 million from €466 million in the corresponding quarter of 2024.The company said that its financial performance in the first quarter reflects ongoing challenges, including the global economic downturn, intensified competition, and political uncertainties.Audi Group includes the Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Ducati brands. In Q1, the group delivered 388,756, a dip of 3.3% year over year.Audi alone delivered 383,401 vehicles to customers in Q1, marking a decline of 3.4% YoY.Audi deliveries in North America, excluding Mexico, fell 2.1% owing to many vehicle models undergoing a generational change.In China, deliveries fell 7% owing to intense competition.The Audi Group expects revenue of between €67.5 billion and €72.5 billion for 2025. The company expects the operating margin to be 7% to 9%, with net cash flow between €3 &nbsp;billion and €4 billion. However, the company said the new forecast does not include the financial implications of import tariffs in the U.S..Audi imports vehicles into the U.S. as it has no factories in the country, making it susceptible to the 25% tariffs on auto imports that went into effect in early April.CEO Gernot Döllner said the company has taken “decisive steps” towards repositioning itself.“The year will continue to be very challenging due to the global economic conditions. Audi Retains Full-Year Revenue Outlook Without Accounting For Trump Tariff Impact: Retail Turns Bullish

The group’s revenue in the first quarter was €15.43 billion, up 12.4% from the same period last year, owing to factors including higher electric vehicle sales.

Volkswagen Core Brand Group Operating Profit Drops In Q1: But Retail’s Not Rattled

Volkswagen’s core brand group includes its best-selling passenger car brand, Volkswagen, as well as Skoda, Seat, Cupra, and Volkswagen commercial vehicles. 

German automaker Volkswagen AG (VWAGY) <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.volkswagen-group.com/en/press-releases/volkswagen-group-doubles-all-electric-deliveries-in-europe-19162">said</a> on Wednesday that it delivered 2.13 million vehicles globally in the first quarter, marking a jump of 1.4% from the corresponding period last year.While sales rose across North America, South America, and Europe, China's figure fell by 7%, the company said. The company attributed the drop to the intense competitive situation in the market.Battery electric vehicle sales in the quarter rose to 216,800 units, accounting for 10% of the company’s overall sales, owing to strong sales growth in Europe and the U.S., which offset a deep 37% decline in China.The Volkswagen ID.4/ID.5 was the company’s best-selling EV in the quarter, followed by the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Audi Q4 e-tron.Volkswagen was the group’s best-selling brand in the quarter, followed by Audi and Skoda. However, sales of the Audi brand dropped 3.4% to 383,400 units.The group’s sport luxury brand Porsche also witnessed a near 8% decline in sales to 71,500 units.Marco Schubert, Member of the Group’s Extended Executive Committee for Sales, said the company has “overall good momentum” in its home region.
