(AMD).The agreement between the two companies has been signed for Riot’s Rockdale data center. The cryptocurrency mining firm also announced that it has sold 1,080 Bitcoin (BTC) worth $96 million to fund the acquisition of 200 acres of land at Rockdale.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/RIOT">Riot Platforms shares</a> were up more than 12% in Friday’s opening trade. The company stated that there are three five-year extension options, which could generate up to $1 billion in total contract revenue if fully exercised.“I am pleased to share the substantial progress we have made at Rockdale, which expands our fully approved data center power portfolio to 1.7 gigawatts and, through the signing of a data center lease with AMD, firmly establishes Rockdale as a leading data center development opportunity,” said Jason Les, CEO of Riot.Riot added that the initial deployment will leverage Riot’s existing infrastructure at the Rockdale site. The company has also begun retrofitting one of its existing facilities, with final delivery to AMD expected in May 2026.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Rockdale Site Acquisition</h2>Riot stated that it had operated the Rockdale site previously on a long-term lease. The site, purchased via a sale of Bitcoin, is now fully owned and operated by Riot. It has 700 megawatt interconnection to the grid, dedicated water supply, and fiber connectivity.Riot said that it intends to convert the entirety of 700 MW capacity for data center tenants.
