Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Par Pacific (PARR) stock fell 2.7% in after-hours trade on Tuesday after the company posted a net loss for the fourth quarter compared with a year-ago profit.For the three months ended Dec. 31, the refiner posted a net loss of $55.7 million, or $1.01 per share, compared with a net income of $289.3 million, or $4.77 per share.According to FinChat data, the company reported a net loss of $0.79 per share on an adjusted basis for the fourth quarter, while analysts, on average, expected it to post a loss of $0.97 per share.Its quarterly revenue of $1.83 billion topped Wall Street’s estimated $1.68 billion.The company’s refining segment posted an operating loss of $65.4 million, compared with an operating income of $174 million last year.Global refining margins have slipped from record highs post Russia’s invasion of Ukraine due to a rise in refining capacity and lukewarm demand in major economies, including China.Par Pacific said, on average, it processed 187,800 barrels per day (bpd) of crude during the quarter, compared with 186,000 bpd last year. Par Pacific Stock Slips After-Hours On Swinging To Q4 Loss, But Retail Traders Brush It Off

According to FinChat data, the company reported a net loss of $0.79 per share on an adjusted basis for the fourth quarter, while analysts, on average, expected it to post a loss of $0.97 per share.

Shares of footwear and apparel retailer Foot Locker Inc. ($FL) fell more than 11% on Wednesday morning after the company missed Wall Street expectations for its third-quarter earnings, damping retail sentiment.The company posted earnings per share of $0.33, below $0.40 as Wall Street analysts expected. Its revenues came in at $1.96 billion, versus the expected $2.01 billion, according to Stocktwits data.Softer consumer spending following the back-to-school season was responsible for the weaker-than-expected bottom line, the company said in a statement.Foot Locker also lowered its full-year sales guidance for non-GAAP EPS outlook. It now expects a sales decline between -1.5% and -1.0%, compared to the earlier range of -1% to +1%.Its non-GAAP EPS is projected at $1.20 to $1.30 compared to the earlier stated range of $1.50 and $1.70. Fourth quarter EPS is expected to fall between $0.70 to $0.80, the company added.For the third quarter, comparable sales grew 2.4% including global Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker divisions where comparable sales grew by 2.8%. &nbsp;"Our team's continued focus on execution drove positive comparable sales trends and meaningful gross margin expansion in the quarter. &nbsp;However, our third quarter top- and bottom-line performance fell short of our expectations,” Mary Dillon, president and CEO said in a statement.Retail sentiment on the stock fell to ‘extremely bearish’ (24/100) from ‘neutral’ (51/100) a week ago. Foot Locker Stock Slides on Weak Q3 Results: Retail Sees Weak Demand as Key Issue

The company lowered its full-year sales guidance for non-GAAP EPS outlook.

Shares of footwear and apparel retailer Foot Locker Inc. ($FL) were down 3.8% on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the company’s third-quarter earnings release, dampening retail sentiment.Wall Street analysts are expecting earnings per share of $0.40 on estimated revenues of $2.01 billion, according to Stocktwits data.For the second quarter, its total sales increased by 1.9%, to $1,89 billion. EPS came in at -$0.05, beating estimates of -$0.07.Its comparable sales increased by 2.6%, led by the global Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker comparable sales growth of 5.2%. The company reaffirmed its full-year guidance for non-GAAP EPS to fall between $1.50 and $1.70.On Tuesday, Piper Sandler lowered the price target on <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/FL">Foot Locker stock</a> to $28 from $30, while keeping a ‘Neutral’ rating, The Fly.com reported.
